Nice W…Finally The Washington Huskies were looking to extend their winning streak on Saturday and steamroll towards the end of the season with a big win against Utah. They did exactly that, making themselves bowl eligible and cracking the BCS Top 25 for the second time this season. The question is…can they stay there this time? With the two remaining games on the schedule, the chances are good. You can never take anybody lightly nowadays, though, and only time will tell. In the meantime, let’s celebrate another Husky win and hand out some hard earned game balls. Offensive Keith Price Keith Price played arguably his best game of the season on Saturday. He made smart choices with the ball and let his playmakers do what they do best. Price was pretty accurate through the air and if you take out the loss of yard on sacks, Price did well on the ground, too. Price went 24/33 for 277 yards, 2 TD and NO interceptions. He also ran for a touchdown. What can you say about ASJ? We finally saw the Keith Price from last season who was all smiles and clicking on all cylinders. Better late than never, huh? Austin Seferian-Jenkins What can you say about the nation’s top tight end in Austin Seferian-Jenkins? The guy is a monster in all aspects of the game and never ceases to amaze us. When he gets the ball in his hands, he makes big plays. How can you not utilize that skill set? This week, ASJ had 7 catches for 99 yards. While he was kept out of the endzone (again), he helped march Washington down the field and overmatch the Utes defense. ASJ contributed in other ways, too, if you could believe it. He played both ways in the game, getting his shot at playing DE for a few snaps. If this keeps up the next 2 games, you may see how nasty this guy can really be. Kasen Williams In the fashion boat as ASJ, Kasen Williams is a playmaker, too. If you get him the ball, he will make big plays. He has a serious knack for making defenders miss and he did just that this week. He caught a touchdown in truly amazing fashion, JUST getting his foot inbounds to make the grab for the score. This week, Williams had 7 catches for 73 yards and that amazing touchdown catch. Bishop Sankey This guy should probably be first on this list, because his contributions were highly significant. Bishop Sankey changed up his game again to be successful this week. At the beginning of the year, Sankey was an end rusher, trying to hit the sidelines and take off downfield. Then he changed his style so he would run between the tackles to throw defenses off. Now, with one of the nation’s top DT’s standing in his way, Sankey went back to the outside and killed them with it. Sankey went for over 100 yards again this week. That’s great. But what’s even better is that he reached the 1,000 yard milestone along the way. He totaled 162 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground and had 4 catches for 13 yards. John Timu was tenacious on D Defensive John Timu John Timu was tenacious on the defense for the Huskies. While the leading tackler was a displaced DE, Timu made arguably the biggest impact as he scared Utah into trying to avoid his part of the field. He total 9 tackles in all, but recorded a very decisive interception along the way. Utah was trying to avoid Timu, but that was never really an option. Secondary The Husky secondary played fantastic this week. You wanna know how? The biggest deciding factor, or measuring stick, is the fact that despite the 142 yards given up on the ground, they held Travis Wilson to just 55 yards through air. 55 yards. Special Teams Travis Coons Travis Coons deserves some big props this week after drawing the nation’s hottest kick returner coming into the game. Reggie Dunn had returned 3 kickoffs the previous 2 weeks for touchdowns, all going for 100+ yard returns. Coons made Dunn a non-factor all game long as he kicked away from him and did not allow him to be a playmaker for Utah. And it worked.
