It is hard to predict when a shoout-out will take place. There are times that two high powered offenses meet, only to end up in a 9-6 field goal kicking contest.I know I did not see this coming. However, this is one time in which part of me is glad to be wrong, because this game was an example of why writing about football is a fun job.Final Score: Oklahoma State 55  West Virginia 34These teams had not played one another since the Reagan Administration. The 1987 Sun Bowl was a shoot-out, with the Cowboys winning 35-33. That game is connected to this one through current Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy. He quarterbacked the 1987 team, and today found himself coaching against the same team he defeated twenty-five years ago.On the opposite sideline is Dana Holgorsen, head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers. He is connected to Oklahoma State after installing the Cowboys record setting offense back in 2010. The team was so impressed by his system, that it is still the offense the Cowboys run. Logic would say that coaching against an offense he himself built and installed would give Holgorsen a huge advantage. It didn't. Despite the Mountaineers celebrated quarterback Geno Smith completing 36 of 54 passes for 364 yards and two scores, West Virginia came up three touchdowns short on the scorebaord.Oklahoma State has had a bad run of quarterback injuries this season. Starter Wes Lunt had to miss this game because of a concussion. Lunt's backup, J.W. Walsh, will not play again this season having suffered a catastrophic knee injury. The Cwoboys gave fourth year junior Clint Chelf his first college start. He did not disappoint.Chelf threw for 292 yards and four touchdowns. Many of his passes, 13 to be exact, went to sophomore receiver Josh Stewart, who ran for a 46 yard touchdown in addition to the two scores he caught.Check out the slides for my "Good, Bad and Ugly" from this game.
