We're sort of surprised this didn't come up sooner but Huskies return specialist and part-time receiver Nick Williams would love to get more involved in the offense. Given that he's a legitimate big-play threat (something UConn has in running back Lyle McCombs but lacks at wideout), it seems like a perfect fit. "I would definitely like to be more involved (in the offense) as any player would," Williams told the Hartford Courant's Desmond Conner. "Any time you can get the ball and a chance to help the offense maybe put some points up, get some better field position, anything to help the team, I would love to do that." And it's not like Williams has squandered the chances he's gotten on offense. Just the opposite, in fact. In a very limited role, he has even receptions for 174 yards and two touchdowns. That works out to 24.9 yards per reception, which is 9.7 yards more per catch than the nearest player (that player, by the way, is ti...

Louisville, UConn look to stay in Big East race

Connecticut and Louisville come into Saturday's Big East showdown in the thick of the conference championship free-for-all. The Huskies (4-5, 2-2) host the Cardinals (5-5, 3-2) in what amounts to an elimination game between teams that could end their seasons in bowl games or with losing records. UConn is hoping that history repeats itself. A year ago the Huskies were 3-4 after...

On paper, UConn should have very little trouble getting their third win of the season, but for coach Jim Calhoun it's about more than the final score. After the Huskies defeated Columbia in the opener, Calhoun was obsessed with one thing: his team getting manhandled on the boards by an undersized...

Still No News on Boatright

Jim Calhoun has been in a mood lately, and it has everything to do with the way his basketball team has played through its first three games. Suspect rebounding, a lack of urgency, overall malaise -- pretty much anything that can go wrong on the court has gone wrong, at least to hear Calhoun tell it. Good news: the Huskies are 3-0 and feature a young group that will only get...

Second-Half Run Lifts Huskies

HARTFORD – Connecticut freshman Andre Drummond wasn’t exactly sure what the problem was. He thought there might have been an emergency in the XL Center and that was why coach Jim Calhoun was urging his team to the bench just five seconds into the second half.
