The state of Wisconsin knows a thing or two about beef and cheese. It cranks out a large supply of both on an annual basis. And it appears as though the Wisconsin football team knows just what to do with it.On Friday, the Badgers partook in the Lawry's Beef Bowl, which is an annual feast between the two teams competing in the Rose Bowl. Once again, the Badgers devoured their competition by throwing down 619 pounds of prime rib to eclipse Stanford's tally of 602 pounds. The Badgers are coming off a feasting victory last year when they smashed Oregon by eating 723 pounds of meat compared to just 612 by the Ducks. However, their success at the dinner table didn't translate to the field as they suffered a 45-38 defeat to the hands of Oregon. As Jesse Temple of FOX Sports Wisconsin points out, the winner of the dubious Beef Bowl has gone on to win the Rose Bowl 39 times in the past 56 years.Stanford freshman Joshua Garnett and Wisconsin sophomore Dallas Lewallen, both offensive lineman, tied for the individual lead in the contest by consuming seven of the 24-ounce cuts of prime rib each.Michigan's Ed Muransky, who ate 10 cuts in 1978, is believed to hold the all-time record for most prime rib consumed during a Beef Bowl. The two teams will square off the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
