Flickr/mr_t_77 On Sunday evening, members of the West Virginia media were introduced to the temporary depth chart for the football season. With the William & Mary opener rapidly approaching, WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen addressed the possible position battles going into the first non-conference opponent. At quarterback, it seems like junior Paul Millard or redshirt junior and Florida State transfer Clint Trickett will get the starting nod. The depth chart had Millard OR Trickett, while redshirt freshman Ford Childress will be at the No. 3 slot. If that is the case, Childress’ future in Morgantown could be in question. The biggest surprise was at the running back position. Behind Houston transfer Charles Sims, freshman Wendell Smallwood was listed at the No. 2 back. Following Smallwood was junior college transfer Dreamius Smith. Dustin Garrison was listed as the No. 4 back, while Andrew Buie wasn’t mentioned on the depth chart at all. If Buie indeed is the No. 5 running back, there is a strong possibility the junior will consider transferring after being the Mountaineers’ leading rusher last season. Freshman Daikiel Shorts was listed as the No. 1 inside receiver, while KJ Myers and Ivan McCartney were listed as the starters at outside receiver. Sims, according to the depth chart, will also be returning kicks. If you’re surprised by Millard, the only newsworthy thing I head last week or so out of closed practices was how he was making big strides. — Mike Casazza (@mikecasazza) August 26, 2013 No Andrew Buie on the depth chart, which lists Sims, Smallwood, Smith and Garrison at 1-4 RB. — Geoff Coyle (@GFCoyle) August 26, 2013
