In the second of this series, I review the Dodgers' starting rotation. It was projected to be one of the best in the National League pre-season and thanks to Clayton Kershaw, it was. However, Chad Billingsley's short-comings are worrisome and disappointing.RotationLHP Clayton Kershaw21-5, 2.28 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 6.7 H/9, 0.6 HR/9, 2.1 BB/9, 9.6 K/9, 4.59 K/BB, 163 ERA+- Kershaw was flat-out dominant this season. He led the Majors in ERA and the NL in strikeouts, WHIP and H/9. He also tied for the league lead in wins and became the first Dodger pitcher to win 20 games since Ramon Martinez did in 1990. He finally reached Ace status this season and is considered by many the front-runner for the NL Cy Young Award.RHP Chad Billingsley11-11, 4.21 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 9.0 H/9, 0.7 HR/9, 4.0 BB/9, 7.3 K/9, 1.81 K/BB, 88 ERA+- Billingsley was supposed to be back on track after finishing 2010 strong. He was supposed to be the unquestioned No. 2 behind Kershaw. Unfortunately, he regressed i...

The Los Angeles Dodgers somehow finished over .500 in 2011
Kudos to rookie manager Don Mattingly as he somehow led the Dodgers to a 3rd place finish in the N.L. West despite suffering widespread injuries. They finished up with a 82-79 record, which had them 11.5 games behind the Diamondbacks. Here is a look at what really stood out to me about the Dodgers in 2011:
TEAM MVP: 27-year old righty swinging Matt Kemp should be the MVP in the...
Should Clayton Kershaw win the 2011 NL Cy Young Award?
It shouldn’t be any surprise that the 2011 NL Cy Young Award race comes down to three horses: Clayton Kershaw, Roy Halladay, and Cliff Lee. All three pitchers have had outstanding years, but one of them has to win it.
As with my analysis of the 2011 NL MVP Award race, I’ll be doing my best to stay away from bias in this argument, so I’ll start off with the objective...
Simers Keeps The McCourt Criticisms Going, Despite Frank's Deaf Ears
There he was, the lone puppy yapping away and barking at Frank McCourt, while most Los Angeles Dodgers fans have moved on and have begun watching four other teams with equal or lesser payroll levels square off in postseason series. But TJ Simers is still nipping at McCourt's heels:
But forget all the legal mumbo jumbo; if McCourt is really serious about being the owner of the...
For Dodgers' Ethier, It Was –30–
In the newspaper business, the tag at the end of the story is –30–, meaning that is all. On May 7, outfielder Andre Ethier went 0-for-4 with a walk against the NY Mets to snap his hitting streak at 30 games, a streak which ranks as the second-longest hitting streak in franchise history falling just short of Willie Davis’ 31-game hitting streak from Aug. 1-Sept. 3, 1969.
Matt Kemp Had A Titanic Season In His Dodger Threads
Topps Marquee is well out of range in terms of what I would consider busting. But, when an affordable hit from one of my guys pops up, I'll grab it. Hence, the newest addition to my Matt Kemp PC.#'d 67/99, it's from the subset Titanic Threads, which I really like. As you can also clearly see, there are three creases on the right side of the relic border. I'm fairly...
Potential Mets trading partner: Dodgers
It’s always nice to have someone worse off than you. For the Mets, we can always say – at least we’re not the Dodgers. Sure, the Dodgers won more games in 2011 and have bigger stars on the major league roster. But their ownership is a disaster, players seem unsure if they want to be there and the minor league system is unlikely to pump out four or five consecutive Rookie...
Arbitration Eligibles: Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers are next in our arbitration eligibles series.
First time: Clayton Kershaw
Second time: Tony Gwynn Jr.
Third time: Matt Kemp, James Loney, Hong-Chih Kuo
Fourth time: Andre Ethier
Should Kershaw win the Cy Young award, our model projects a record-shattering first-time pitcher salary of $8.4MM. Tim Lincecum had two Cy Youngs under his belt when he...
Dodgers hope to unearth more gems in AFL
If Dodgers rookie closer Javy Guerra caught people by surprise this year, fans should pay attention to the Arizona Fall League, which opened play last week.
Accusations fly in filings for key hearing on Dodgers' ownership
Stage is set for Oct. 31, as Frank McCourt says Bud Selig, upset by divorce trial, bent his own rules to force McCourt out. Fox Sports says TV rights sale could leave team liable for huge damages.Frank McCourt's divorce trial so troubled Bud Selig that the commissioner circumvented his own rules and choked off the Dodgers' money supply in a scheme to oust McCourt as the team...
