Old-School D-backs Logo. The Arizona Diamondbacks are coming off their most successful season since 2007, finishing up with a 94-68 record and easily stole the NL West away from the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants who were eight games back. Losing the NLCS to the Brewers in five games was certainly a quicker exit than the D-backs had hoped for, but with a new season on the horizon only one question remains. Can Manager Kirk Gibson get his D-backs back into October in 2012 for a second year in a row? Let’s have a look… THE POSITIVES: In order to stay a contender in the NL West the D-backs needed to solidify their starting rotation. The division is pitching heavy with the Giants and Dodgers, and the D-Backs’ run-of-the-mill but good rotation needed a boost. And trading for Oakland Athletics ace Trevor Cahill certainly gave them that, as he will compliment Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson nicely in the third spot. D-backs' Cahill, Skaggs have rough debuts

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Diamondbacks got a look at the now and later of their rotation Wednesday at Salt River Fields and it wasn't pretty, but it is, after all, just spring training. Trevor Cahill made his Diamondbacks debut against the Indians to mixed results while top prospect Tyler Skaggs followed with a rough outing that lasted less than an inning. Cahill, acquired in...

Bauer comes back to Earth in second start

PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Trevor Bauer Show took to the road Friday, and though the results weren't quite as impressive as in his spring debut earlier in the week, the buzz dropped off only slightly. The 21-year-old Diamondbacks prospect followed up his dominant debut with a more down-to-Earth performance against the Mariners, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings at Peoria...

The Scrum for the NL West: Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks had such a magical season in 2011 and won 94 games. Despite their success, Baseball Prospectus does not even project the team to win the division in 2012. In fact, BP projects the division to be among the closest and yet nearly the most mediocre division in baseball with only seven games separating the teams from top to bottom. In this, the first segment...

D-backs might have luxury of 2 lefties in 'pen

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It's fairly rare to see a major league bullpen without a left-handed reliever. It might be even more uncommon to see one with two lefties. The Diamondbacks appear ready to do just that this season after acquiring Craig Breslow from Oakland in the offseason to go with second-year reliever Joe Paterson. Having two lefties in the 'pen is undoubtedly...
