Each day MTRphilly.com will be breaking down the players on the Philadelphia Phillies 40 man roster and their non roster invitees. Today we will discuss shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Summary:  Jimmy Rollins had an up and down year in 2012 where he hit only .250. He hit 23 homeruns, his most since 2007 when he hit 30 and continued to be a threat on the base paths stealing 30 bags. J-Roll continues to play Gold Glove defense and is still a guy that can change the game with the swing of a bat or a steal of a base. Rollins is probably past his offensive prime and should probably be moved down in the lineup, but most experts that follow the Phillies expect Jimmy to be the opening day leadoff hitter. Scouting Report:  Gold Glove defense Excellent base runner Can hit for power from both sides of the plate Struggles with On Base Percentage Hits:  Jimmy Rollins is a leader that has helped change the culture in Philadelphia to one of winning. Gold Glove defender Great baserunner that rarely get...

The Phillies are making sure that they have infield insurance this season. Their latest move is to sign Matt Tolbert - formerly of the Minnesota Twins - to a minor league deal.

Grading the Phillies' Offseason Signings and Acquisitions

With four days remaining until pitchers and catchers and catchers report to Clearwater and one week until the full team reports, it appears the Phillies are done signing mediocre infielders and outfielders that don't get on base. Well, for now. I think Endy Chavez is still out there, go get him Ruben! After all, he "doesn't care about walks, he cares about production...

Prospect Nation 2013: #16 OF Zach Collier

Last year, outfielder Zach Collier finally made the kind of impression the Phillies had long hoped for since they made him their supplemental 1st round draft choice (34th overall) in 2008. From the “Lost Tapes” files, I bring you a never-before-released interview with 2012 Phillies draft pick Zach Cooper.  The righty hurler was in the midst of an excellent campaign during his first season in the pro ranks, after the Phils selected him in the 15th round out of Central Michigan University, when I spoke with him in August.
