Found March 12, 2013 on MyTeamRivals.com:
It is difficult to predict which teams will overachieve during spring training. Yet, you will still find some who claimed to know the 2012 Orioles and Athletics would be as good as they were. Sometimes over thinking leads to faulty predictions. Looking at the finish the San Diego Padres had to the 2012 season, it is my educated guess to see this team taking a major step when it comes to the 2013 version. Despite finishing their season losing 10 of their last 14, it can be said the team finished strong. Prior to that stretch, the Padres went 17-6. In fact, throughout the prior 44 games, the team was 41-26, 15 games over .500. This at a time where teams like the Giants, Dodgers and Diamondbacks were all fighting for playoff spots. The Dodgers and Diamondbacks partially have the Padres to blame for falling short in their playoff push. Overall, the Padres finished 76-86, forth place in the NL West. 3B Chase Headley became a star, hitting .286, 31, 115 while winning the NL Gold Glov...

Star prospect Kelly might miss season

The San Diego Padres are facing the possibility that right-hander Casey Kelly - their top prospect, according to Baseball America - will be lost for the next year due to Tommy John elbow surgery. Kelly, 23, underwent tests on his right elbow this week, and Padres manager Bud Black said, "The doctors are concerned." Asked if Tommy John surgery is possible, Black said, ...

Casey Kelly to miss 2013 season thanks to Tommy John surgery

The San Diego Padres got some terrible news on Wednesday afternoon as their top prospect, pitcher Casey Kelly, is almost certain to miss the entire 2013 season due to Tommy John elbow surgery. Kelly had tests on his elbow this week and while a definite course of action has yet to be determined, it appears the 23-year-old will end up having the surgery. Kelly was the centerpiece of...

Padres' Casey Kelly may need surgery

San Diego Padres right-hander Casey Kelly may be headed for elbow ligament-replacement surgery. Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said the prospect went back to San Diego on Tuesday for tests on his sore right elbow. Padres manager Bud Black said on Wednesday no decisions have been made. No formal diagnosis was announced. ''The doctors are concerned about what the tests...

Tommy John surgery for Padres' Kelly

San Diego Padres right-hander Casey Kelly will have Tommy John surgery on his pitching arm the first week of April. Padres general manager Josh Byrnes confirmed that plan on Friday morning. Kelly is expected to miss 12 to 18 months rehabbing after the procedure. Kelly said on Monday that doctors found small tears in his right ulnar collateral ligament. He was having pain during...

Padres' Injury News: Logan Forsythe out with plantar fasciitis

Generally, plantar fasciitis is an injury seen in basketball players more than baseball players, but that's exactly what Logan Forsythe is dealing with.  The San Diego Padres' utility infielder will be sidelined thanks to ongoing pain in his foot and heel. Forsythe will miss a few days (3-4, likely) thanks to the injury says Bill Center of the San Diego Union Tribune...

Three for the Show: Right Fielders

This is the eighth (is this thing still going?!) in a ten-part series where I will identify the top three players at each position in the Padres’ minor league system. Up next: Right Field. Please excuse any typos that may occur in this article, as teardrops are continuously falling into my keyboard as I type this piece. In case you’re wondering why that may be, it’s because...

Ross gives up 2 hits in 3 innings for Padres

Tyson Ross pitched two-hit ball in his second straight scoreless outing, and Yonder Alonso hit one of the San Diego Padres' three homers in a 10-0 romp over The Oakland Athletics on Monday. Second baseman Jonathan Galvez and left fielder Travis Buck also homered for San Diego, which roughed up Oakland starter Jarrod Parker for five runs. Parker gave up six hits and struck out...

Daily Friar 3.11.13

The Padres lost a rough game yesterday against the Cubs. Jason Marquis started the game off very well, but the guys behind him were unable to get the job done. Marquis pitched four scoreless innings while only giving up two hits; he also struck out two. Tim Stauffer then came in and didn’t fare as well. In two innings of work Stauffer gave up four runs on four hits, one of them...

Daily Friar 3.12.13

The Padres must have felt like they were in batting practice yesterday. In total they hit five doubles and four home runs in route to a very strong win over the Oakland A’s. In fact the pitching even had very little trouble all day as the staff collectively gave up just four hits. It’s nice to see everything work out even if it is just in spring. The bats were heating up as the...

Padres Public Plans a Takeover of Fox Sports San Diego

It’s going to be a big week  for Padres Public next week. 7 of the 13 members of the group will be heading out to Peoria for some Spring Training action and with that will come a ton of pictures, analysis, scouting, videos and there will be very little bobblehead talk (sorry). We also have a bunch of special things planned during our time out there. Make sure you follow us on...

Daily Friar 3.13.13

The Padres played under the lights last night as they went to Scottsdale to take on the Giants. Freddy Garcia took the hill and looked to make up for a couple rough outings that he had prior. Well he definitely made up for them and pitched a stellar four innings. The only blemish that he had on his line was a third inning solo home run, but other than that he gave up only three hits...
