The Mets concluded the weekend series against the stripped down Miami Marlins with a big walk-off win on Sunday afternoon. The opening homestand ends with the Mets going 4-2 winning both series! Here are this weekend’s 3 Ups and 3 Downs. Byrd’s Big Hit: Marlon Byrd was the hero Sunday afternoon with a walk-off base hit scoring Ruben Tejada and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Tejeda was hit by a pitch, Nieuwenhuis then laced a single. Good aggressive baserunning by both Ruben and Kirk gave the Mets runners on second and third with Byrd at the plate. The Marlins pulled the infield in and Byrd laced a hit down the third base line. A nice win for the Mets. The Jeremy & Jon Show: Jeremy Hefner was the hard luck loser on Friday night, going six innings and giving up only one run ( a Greg Dobbs homer), and Jon Niese received a no-decision on Saturday afternoon, after going six innings and giving up one earned run. As a consolation for their hard work, Hefner and Niese get the number two slot here o...

Mets Wrap: Marlon Byrd And Bullpen Keys To Comeback Win

There are a lot of indicators for a successful team and the Mets did several of them today in beating the Miami Marlins, 4-3, Sunday. Among them are winning close games, being able to come from behind, clutch hitting and solid relief work. Mets Take Winning Ways To Philly - Look To Continue The Winning Trend: Mets Lineup Vs. Phillies - April 8, 2013

The Mets were fortunate to pull out a victory over the hapless Marlins in the bottom of the 9th, concluding on a shot down the 3B line by Marlon Byrd. Nice timely hit by Byrd, but the real big blow was the hitter before, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, blooped a ball to LF where the poor throwing Juan Pierre floated a bubble to 3rd base to try and get Ruben Tejada, which wasn't even close. Captain Kirk,

Byrds Eat Fish

Let's start off with what might be construed as an inconvenient truth: It took way, way, waaaaaaaaay too much work to take two out of three from the Miami Marlins, or as Eddie calls them, Giancarlo and the Blowfish. They're terrible, and they showed it again today in a game that most teams would have had in their hip pocket against the Mets. But because their left fielder...

Cowgill Now Batting .130, Valdespin Leads Mets Outfielders With .917 OPS Off Bench

Aside from Marlon Byrd, who is batting .269 on the young season, the rest of the Mets outfielders are all in a big rut at the plate. Worst among them is Oakland A’s import Collin Cowgill who is batting .130 after another 0-for-4 showing last night against left-hander Cliff Lee. Cowgill, who was initially proclaimed the everyday center fielder before the season began, has now been...
