Found October 16, 2011 on Matthew Cerrone's Mets Blog:
Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the Mets first World Championship, as they defeated the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles in five games by the score of 5-3 at Shea Stadium. Tom Seaver and the Mets lost game one of the World Series at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, but the Mets won four consecutive games thanks in part to great pitching (they allowed four runs in the final four games), great defense from Tommie Agee and Ron Swoboda, and clutch hitting from Donn Clendenon (World Series MVP) and Al Weiss.
