Pretty consistent performer over the years 500 saves is a boat load. It been lights out when "Hells Bells" comes into the game for a long time.

  • Good for Trevor Hoffman. He seems like a decent guy and to do anything 500 times at the major league level is quite an accomplishment. With that said, the save rule as it is presently constituted is a little silly. The fact that a guy can come into a game with his team ahead by three runs and get a save just doesn't seem quite right. I would think that a "save" should only be awarded when the tying or winning run is in play. It would be interesting if someone could adjust the "saves" of major league pictures using this criteria. But again, doing 500 of anything in the major leagues is a great accomplishment.
