Billy Wagner's not one to make excuses when he blows a save, but he did let everyone know why he struggled last night. The Mets' closer revealed that he has a strain in his left forearm. Wagner originally hurt his forearm last Tuesday against the Marlins, but after a few days' rest he hoped the pain would ease. He felt no pain until warming up last night in the bullpen, but took the mound anyway with the Mets ahead 4-2. Wagner finished the ninth, but not before allowing two runs on three hits and a walk, blowing his seventh save of the season. Wagner is scheduled to undergo an MRI tomorrow in New York to see if there's any structural damage, and at this point, there's a chance he might go on the disabled list. "It's going to take some time," Wagner said. "I'm going to take some time off, and get back healthy for the push." While Wagner feels confident with a little rest he'll be back to normal, the Mets are taking this a little more seriously. "We are concerned," said Tony Bernazard, Mets vice president of player development . "?When we have more information, we'll go from there." As a precautionary move, the Mets have recalled pitcher Eddie Kunz from Binghamton. Kunz, the Mets first round pick in the 2007 draft (42nd overall), has been having an outstanding year for the B-Mets going 1-4 with 27 saves and a 2.79 ERA. It's not likely that Kunz will be moved to the closer's role - that will most likely be given to Duaner Sanchez - but should Wagner miss an extended amount of time and should Sanchez struggle closing games, the ball might be handed to Kunz, who is pegged as the Mets' closer of the future.
