Raul Ibanez (completed?) his rehab with Lehigh Valley on Thursday night. Ibanez went 1 for 3 with a double, two walks, and two RBI. He announced that he is ready to return to the P-Phils lineup immediately, but no roster move has been made as of yet. Lehigh Valley (AAA) scored four runs in the eighth, after trailing 3-2, and beat the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees, 6-3. Gustavo Chacin got the victory, surrendering three runs over seven innings (six hits, three walks/five strikeouts). Cedrick Bowers followed with two scoreless frames, for his fourth save (ERA now: 1.30). The Reading Phillies (AA) defeated the Akron Aeros, 7-4. Jeremy Slayden had three doubles (BA now: .377), Tuffy Gosewisch had two doubles (three hits total), and Neil Sellers had three singles (BA now: .315). Joe Savery had a poor outing (six and two-thirds innings, eight hits, four runs, three walks/four strikeouts), but picked up his twelfth win (ERA now: 3.48). The Clearwater Threshers (A) were thrashed in their doubleheader against the Brevard County Manatees, losing 5-0, and 11-0. Ugly night for the Threshers, who were held to six hits (and made three errors), in the fourteen innings played. The first-place Manatees had eight All-Stars selected, and were playing in the friendly (to them) confines of Space Coast Stadium, so it was a tough matchup for the Threshers. If it wasn't before, it is certainly now time to Fear the Sea Cow!

Chris Coste's Next Book To Be Set In Houston

If he's writing one and it's about his career as professional baseball player.  Coste has been designated for assignment to clear a roster spot for the return of Raul Ibanez, and the Astros have claimed the catcher.  Oh sweet, more Paul Bako! /eye rollBy now we're all familiar with Coste's improbable story, finally reaching the show in 2005 at the age of 33, becoming...

Top Ten Active Former Mariners: No. 3 Raul Ibanez

How the Mariners ended up with him: Ibanez was drafted by the Mariners in the 36th round in the 1992 draft. The M’s called him up first in 1996, and he played intermittent MLB and AAA ball for them for 4 years. He was then signed by the Royals in 2001, and Seattle signed him again in 2003. Why we miss him: Ibanez is a valuable offensive player for the power he brings and his...

All Stars + Blanton = Victory

The All Star syndrome is contagious.  First it was Raul Ibanez and Chase Utley.  Then, Ryan Howard.  Next, Shane Victorino was voted in.  Now, Jayson Werth is added.  Several of those All Stars played a key role in today’s win and Joe Blanton pitched an All Star-type performance. In 7.1 innings, Blanton allowed one earned run; [...]

Ryan Franklin is an All-Star, Remember Him?

Although all of the attention towards Raul Ibanez is understandable, very few Mariners fans have noticed that another former Mariner, Ryan Franklin, is also on the National League All-Star team this year.
