TEAMS: New York Mets

Going to Philly to watch a baseball game was an eye opener to say the least (actually it was a mouth opener). The stadium is absolutely amazing and I've been waiting ever since to hear what the story is regarding the food offerings at Citi Field next year. Thanks to the New York Times I can start salivating right? now. It looks the folks in charge are swinging for the fences. The Shake Shack and Blue Smoke are leading off and that's music to my taste buds. While I've found the Shake Shack extremely overrated, it will be great to have this as an option. You might actually be able to go to Queens for a burger and a ballgame in less time than it takes to wait in the ridiculous lines of Madison Square Park. While I think there are better burgers in the City, this will be the best burger you've ever had at a stadium. The Shake Shack will also deliver in the required ballpark offering of hotdogs. Except these dogs can go to 11: mustard, relish, onions, cucumber, pickles, tomatoes, sport pepper and celery salt are standard on the Shack-Cago Dog. How about a hot caramel, toffee, chocolate chunk, and frozen custard shake? I know, I want one too. Very badly. Blue Smoke's presence at Citi Field enables Americans to chow delicious barbecue while watching baseball which is a constitutional right. Well it should be anyway. If you've never had the red-neck pleasure of eating deviled eggs and watching home runs, it is on the horizon my friends and it will be delicious. If you find the Shake Shack's fries lacking, Citi Field has you covered. We've been promised Belgian-style fries. Gone are the days when soggy potatoes are your only option at the ballpark. Now mountains of crispy, salty, twice fried frites await the seventh inning stretch and we're not stuck with ketchup. I'm talking about mayo people. You have to trust the Belgians on this one. They invented fries? or at least they claim they did. Whatever, as long as they keep 'em coming. I see we've also been given a taqueria at Citi Field and while there aren't any details yet, I can tell you that tacos are always a good thing. I also know that nachos are a good thing. As are quesadillas? and taquitos? with guacamole on them. I'm crossing my fingers that micheladas will be offered. This is just the beginning my friends and a great one at that. I seriously think Citi Field is going to replace my local bar next season. If you're looking to grab a few cold ones and shoot the breeze, I'll be in center field stuffing my face.

The Dan Warthen Project

When Willie Randolph and some of his henchmen were fired last month, all eyes were on Jerry Manuel. He's been analyzed, poked and prodded ad nauseam the last month, but what about new pitching coach Dan Warthen? Brought up from Triple A New Orleans (with Ken Oberkfell, Luis Aguayo and a 30-pound vat of jambalaya), he took over for Rick Peterson and couldn't be more different...

Chase Utley Does Not Appreciate Your Boos

I guess we're in emptying the video box mode, but this one is still worth a spot this morning. Here's Chase Utley being introduced by Chris Berman to a chorus of boos. Watch the reaction....There must have been a lot of Mets fans on hand last night. The even funnier thing is that ESPN bleeped curses out the whole rest of the night when batters miss hit balls. I guess...

Ibanez is a Good Fit in New York

The Mets are hot. Winners of their last eight, they find themselves in second place, only a half-game behind the Phillies. Conceivably they could be in first place at the All-Star break. It's quite the turnaround from exactly one month ago when they were 32-34, in fourth place, seven-and-a-half games out of the division. If you asked me a month ago, I felt the Mets should...

Streaking: Mets-Rockies Series Recap

The Mets hosted the Rockies in the last series before the All-Star break. The Amazin's were riding a six-game winning streak, and were only one-and-a-half games behind the Phillies. And when it was over, they found themselves with a nine-game winning streak, threw two shutouts and picked up another game in the standings. And they'd probably love to play a doubleheader today...

ESPN acknowledges Shea's greatest baseball moments

While this graphic was displayed during the Mets victory last night, John Miller said, "most of the great moments at Shea don't even involve baseball at all." Awesome, nice to hear everyone shares the same affinity for Shea and are...

The Good Guys of New York

New York baseball has had its fair share of jerks, egomaniacs and just plain bad dudes. But there is also a long line of pleasant, gracious guys who have graced the New York sports scene. So in honor of the late Bobby Murcer, who was one of the all-time nice guys of Gotham, here is a list of some of the good guys who have passed through the New York baseball world. Lou Gehrig...

Fantasy Baseball: I Want My Life Back!!!!!

Waking up late this Sunday morning, I had officially realized how fantasy baseball was slowly taking over almost every aspect of my personal life. I looked at the clock to see one of the scariest sites a fantasy baseball owner can see on a Sunday, 12:56 p.m. I rushed to my computer to make sure my lineup was set and that everything was in order for the 1 o'clock games. But then...
