The man many Mets fans love to hate returned tonight and while he went 0-4 with a walk at the plate, Castillo made solid contributions in the field. The Mets turned three double plays after the lead off hitter had made it safely to first, one of which the runner attempted to take Louie out hard but he stayed in to complete the play. On another play Castillo robbed Darin Erstad of a line drive single. Jose Reyes hasn't stolen a base in two weeks and while some of that can be attributed to keeping his legs fresh, I have to believe the rotating two hitter contributed. There is a chance that Jose didn't feel comfortable with Murphy, Evans, A. Reyes at the plate but in the first game Castillo is back he swipes a base.....

Another minor league pitcher wants to help....
Many have heard the names Jon Neise and Bobby Parnell as possible call ups in Sept., both are in AAA New Orleans and have had mixed results. Parnell was bombed in his last outing and has an ERA of 7.43 with a record of 1-2. Neise has had four two run outings including tonight and two four run outings, his ERA is 3.65 with a 4-1 record. John Maine and Mike Pelfrey may need at least...

The New York Mets today announced that with today's pregame sales, the club has surpassed four million tickets sold for the first time in franchise history. The Mets have 16 home games remaining to add to this record.
This marks the third successive year that the Mets have set a club ticket sales record. The Mets drew 3,853,949 fans to Shea Stadium last year and 3,379,535 in 2006.
Kevin Duckworth dies at 44; did the Mitchell Report provide forewarning?
With the news that Kevin Duckworth has passed away at the young age of 44, I happened to think of when his name found its way into the Mitchell Report. There was a cashed check that Duckworth made out to former New York Mets clubhouse guy Kirk Radomski, but Duckworth himself was never implicated...probably because he was a former NBA player and had nothing to do with baseball. From...

Will The Mets Put Jon Niese In A Position To Succeed?
One of the ways to judge the effectiveness of a manager is to see if he puts his players in a position to succeed. Reliever Scott Schoeneweis is murder against lefty batters but can't get out righty batters. A good manager would put Schoeneweis in the game against a lefty batter that his manager won't pitch hit for in a crucial situation.
Minaya: 'We'll find a way'
Is this New York Mets team going to the playoffs?
We're 132 games into the 2008 season and we still don't have the answer.
But soon, we will.

If you are a regular reader here at Mop Up Duty then you know I am a sucker for a comeback story. The New York Sun has an article detailing the story behind Tatis' rise, fall and bounce-back.

Poll: Fifth Starter
With John Maine potentially out for the season, who would you like to see the Mets use as a fifth starter? Vote now.
Just Another Mets-Phillies Game
It was another crazy, typical Mets-Phillies game. Where have we seen this before? As always, the Mets scored early and often. And as always, the Phillies scored late and often. When the Mets were winning 7-0 in the fourth inning, I was going to turn the TV off thinking there's no way the Mets can win this game. And, unfortunately, they didn't, losing 8-7. You'd normally...
I'd go with Claudio Vargas
Now that it's official, John Maine is on the DL and the rest of his season is in jeopardy, the Mets need to find another starter. Brian Stokes can spot start and I know alot of people will be clamouring for Jon Niese or Bobby Parnell, but I'd go with a more conservative approach, Claudio Vargas. John Maine's spot has approximately five starts left which means the team...

A gentlemanly exchange between rival blog sites
In the spirit of brotherly love (i.e. killing space and increasing page traffic before the start of the Mets game) we reopen the information superhighway between Metsblog and Beerleaguer. Metsblog contributor Mike Nichols reintroduces the long-lost art of the Q&A exchange with a well-informed grilling about the state of the Phillies. Click here to read what I have to say about...
Recipe for disaster......the pen
Well the Mets have created quite a buzz in their last two losses, it seems like everywhere you go in the Mets blogosphere there is one thing being discussed the bullpen. In today in the New York Observer Howard Megdal tells us just how bad they are.....The bullpen is awful by the standards of the very worst teams in Mets history. Only once in New York's existence has the team...
