Eddie Kunz has been optioned to Triple-A New Orleans to clear room for Luis Ayala.
Interesting roster moves coming....
The Mets have three players currently on rehab assignment, once a player has completed the required disabled list days ( 15/60 days) and is cleared by the medical staff to resume baseball activities, the team is required to re-instate that player 20 days from his first rehab game ( 30 days pitchers).Of the three players Luis Castillo is the closest to returning but he's also...
Mets won't use starters as relievers (Closer)
After yesterday's sobering news from Billy Wagner's latest MRI, the Mets are back in crisis mode with their bullpen - but not desperate enough to mess with the rotation at this point. Manager Jerry Manuel basically ruled out using a starter to replace Wagner as closer, despite saying a week ago that it was a contingency plan he would consider.
Manuel even spoke to John...
Decision time approaches for Castillo
Luis Castillo is expected to make his first start at NYSEG Stadium for the Binghamton Mets tonight. Castillo is 1-for-8 in three starts with the B-Mets and 2-for-28 in 11 rehab games between GCL, St. Lucie and the Binghamton Mets. Let me do the math for you: that's .071.
Is Wagner Done for rest of the Year???
The Mets and Billy Wagner say no, that he is not finished for the year, despite what is looking like a very ominous elbow injury. I'm no doctor, but the fact that both Wagner and GM Omar Minaya described the inflammation as actually getting worse, that's not a good sign. The immediate plan is to leave Wagner on the shelf until the swelling subsides and then have another MRI...
Minaya says Wagner not done for season
Mets GM Omar Minaya said he doesn't believe Billy Wagner is done for the season. "No, he's not done for the year, but the news is not good," Minaya said on Mets Extra on WFAN. "There's no way to sugarcoat it."
Bullpen: Summer Meltdown
While the Mets continue to chalk up wins, the bullpen has had a summer swoon ... from injuries (Billy Wagner) to ineffectiveness (see below), the summer months have not been kind to New York's bullpen ...
Knight pitches Team USA to medal round
New York Mets pitcher Brandon Knight pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and five strikouts, leading Team USA to a 4-2 win over Taiwan and advancing the U.S. to the medal round in the 2008 Summer Olympics Games in Beijing.
Deaths At Shea Stadium Tonight Narrowly Avoided
Me, The Minister Of Fun, and dozens of other Mets fans are trapped at the top of a Shea Stadium escalator, people are shouting, "Walk back, walk back!" and we're all about to die….
Before I go further into the 30-second soccer riot on an escalator that I hope to God I won't have nightmares about [...]
inGame: Mets 7, Braves 3
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the New York Mets (69-57) offense woke up, scoring five runs on their way to a 7-3 win over the Atlanta Braves Tuesday night at Shea Stadium.
Steve Pearce--Met Killer
Two straight Monday afternoon games against the Mets. Two deficits. Two game winning hits by Steve Pearce.---Pearce has been very unimpressive since his callup, but this makes two weeks in a row that he did in the Mets in the Pirates' final at-bat.-Paul Maholm was shaky early and gave up a run in the first (shocking, I know), but limited the damage and allowed just one more run...
20 Years Ago: A Look Back at the 1988 Mets
The year was 1988. Bill Cosby's sweaters hypnotized us into buying Jell-O Pudding Pops. The nation was swept up in the controversy of the day: Which one of the Golden Girls was Axl Rose singing about in "Sweet Child o' Mine" (Of course it turned out to be Bea Arthur)? And the movie Cocktail inspired a generation of children to quit playing Go Fish, drop out of elementary school and...
Welcome to Shea Luis Ayala
While the Mets continue to search for a closer, not all games will be won in the 9th inning. Newly acquired Luis Ayala made his Mets debut in the 7th inning. Oliver Perez didn't have his best stuff tonight but found a way to limit the damage to a three run third. Perez ran out of gas in the 7th when he put runners on the corners while only recording one out. So many times this...
