According to Gordon Wittenmyer, Brian Giles won't be coming to the Cubs. Giles has a no-trade clause that he'll never waive to come to Chicago.Giles had the chance to play for Boston this past season and refused to waive the no trade clause.

$4 million signing bonus
2009 Salary: $8 Million

2012 Salary: $14 Million (Player Option)

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, the Cubs are close to re-signing Dempster to a 4 year, $52 million dollar deal ($13 mil per year). I guess the timing of this leads to a few questions...whether this means the Cubs pursuit of Peavy has ended, whether Dempster and his agent didn't find any other overwhelming offers in free agency, or whether this deal was near completion...
