Another Cubs Blog:
PLAYERS:
Mark DeRosa,
Mike Fontenot,
Jeff Baker,
Milton Bradley
TEAMS: St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs
TEAMS: St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs
Mark DeRosa WAR: 1.7 (493 PA)
Mike Fontenot WAR (vs RHP): 0.5 (322 PA)
Jeff Baker WAR with Cubs: 1.3 WAR (129 PA)
In fewer PA, the Baker and Fontenot have been better than DeRosa if Fontenot only faced righties this year, which he should only be doing. In other words, a straight platoon of Fontenot and Baker with Baker playing some 3rd, 1st, LF and RF the Cubs have been more valuable with those 2 than with DeRosa.
Milton Bradley WAR: 1.7 (444 PA)
There you have it. Can we please stop complaining about DeRosa not being on this team now? The Cubs have not missed him. Whatever production DeRosa would have provided playing 3rd when Ramirez was out has been made up for in the short amount time Baker has been a Cub.
Milton Bradley has been better than DeRosa and Fontenot/Baker have been too. It’s time Cubs fans deal with it. Mark DeRosa would only have made this team the same as it is, if not ever so slightly worse than it is right now.

Figgins Prematurely On Cubs' Radar
I had brought up the name Chone Figgins earlier in the season as the one free agent name I thought the Cubs would try and pursue. That is if they can figure out how to squeeze them into their already bloated payroll fo next year. There's also the insanity of paying him 10M+ per year, for someone who is not anywhere near that kind of money, but he's got that "true leadoff" label...
What The Hell Happened with Ryan Dempster?
I figured this was as good a title as any for us to use when we take a look at how the Cubs have performed in the 2009 season. i used it first with Soriano, but will continue using it. I’ve begun these now because a lot of what happens the rest of the way is meaningless. Lou may skip a starter or a player and give some playing time to the so-called younger players. Also...
Hypothetically Speaking: Would You Trade Vernon Wells for Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley?
Hypothetically speaking, let's say that the Cubs have decided that they cannot take another year of Milton Bradley and Alfonso Soriano. They're desperate to get out from under both of these contracts and rid themselves of the headcase that is Milton Bradley. And for hypothetical purposes, let's assume that Soriano wants to get out of Chicago and is willing to waive his...
Just Get It Over With
Earlier in the year, Angry proclaimed the Cubs mantra for 2009, "Just Get It ******* Done." Well, they didn't and the season is practically over. Things have been pretty slow here at the College. Only 5 posts from last month and this will probably be the last Cubs post of the 2009 season. Don't worry though, COI has already moved onto the Bears, who will open up with the Packers...
Game & Series Recap: Mets 4, Cubs 2 (1 game to 2)
Randy Wells didn't have his best stuff ever today, as he surrendered 7 hits in 6 innings and 95 pitches, but he was effective enough that he should have gotten the job done. Instead, the Mets appeared to rub the belly of the Cubs offense, which promptly rolled over and continued its slumber.
Of course, Kevin Gregg did his best to continue the ruination of his season...
Derrek Lee Could Be Crazy But He Could Be Right Too
While the 2009 season is one that Cubs fans would like to forget -- just a few weeks left -- as soon as possible, with new ownership taking over it's possible that next year's version of the Cubs could look a lot like the team you've seen this year. No matter how badly fans may want Alfonso Soriano gone this offseason, he isn't going anywhere.Even if somebody wanted...
CUBS IN BRIEF: Samardzija swears he's not itching for the NFL
PITTSBURGH -- As tough as this season has been at times, and even amid the excitement of the NFL season starting this week, Cubs rookie pitcher Jeff Samardzija says he has no regrets about choosing baseball over football and isn't tempted to switch.
Madden: Cubs and manager Lou Piniella endure fade like recent Mets seasons in disappointing 2009
Misery, as they say, loves company, so it was fitting that the Mets should have been hosting Lou Piniella's Chicago Cubs this lost Labor Day weekend for two teams that began the season with legitimate World Series aspirations.
