And it looks like Russell Branyan's magical 2009 season has unfortunately come to a close. Injuries suck:"Wakamatsu said there is a strong possibility that Russell Branyan will not be back this season. Branyan is on the DL with a herniated disc in his back. The team is targeting a mid-month return in hopes he responds to treatment.Branyan had an epidural Tuesday and supposedly feels better, but nobody can say for sure when he'll be back."I think with the bulging disc, there's a strong chance that he won't come back," Wakamatsu said. "Our dialogue has been to shoot for the 15th."Well that's unfortunate. Branyan has been one of the feel good stories this season by having the best season of his career at age 33. Branyan hit .251 with 31 home runs, 76 RBI, and a .347 OBP.However, now that it looks like Branyan will miss the entire month of September, how will that effect his free agent candidacy? On one hand, the injury is obviously a negative...

Ken Griffey Jr. Helps Welcome Adrian Beltre Back After Testicle Mishap
"When Beltre came up for his first at-bat, the theme for Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" was played, a gesture from Ken Griffey Jr., whose MRI on his knee showed no structural damage." [SeattlePI]
As End Nears, Ken Griffey Jr. Handles New Role
by Jeff FletcherFiled under: MarinersOAKLAND -- Ken Griffey Jr.'s triumphant return to Seattle doesn't have the happy ending the Mariners and their fans might have hoped, but it also hasn't been the failure that his .218 average might imply. The Mariners had their eyes wide open when they entered into this deal with the 39-year-old Griffey, fully aware of the limitations...
Kenji Johjima battles on despite diminished playing time
Just some quick news here that Ken Griffey Jr. has been scratched from tonight's game with soreness in his knee. Griffey had missed most of the past week with knee soreness, then played last night and is now out again. They gave him a shot at being in there depending on what he did in batting practice. Manager Don Wakamatsu had been optimistic Griffey would make it in, but BP...

Athletics 9, Mariners 5: Seattle fails to build on, or hold, early three-run lead
This game sure didn't finish the way it began for the Mariners. But that's what lousy pitching and an anemic offense will do to you and the M's had both tonight after the second inning.
Luke French now has a 6.38 ERA since joining the Mariners from Detroit at the July 31 trade deadline.
He's now walked 17 batters against only 22 strikeouts. Not a good sign. Control...
My half-way crazy plan for Ken Griffey Jr.
What should the Mariners do with Ken Griffey Jr. next season? The fans love Junior, and the Mariners love his positive impact in the clubhouse, but his declining performance hinders the ability of an otherwise pretty decent team to contend for a postseason berth.
