Schmidt
Jason Schmidt (1-0, 5.40) vs. Chris Volstad (7-9, 4.34). COMMENTS: Jason Schmidt, Take 2. If I had any idea what Schmidt will bring to the table today, I'd be playing the ponies instead of watching the Dodgers. As it is, he showed enough moxie to get through five innings in his last outing. Building on that would be a great next step for him. Otherwise we'll have to resurrect the whole fifth-starter discussion again. The 22-year-old Volstad is 1-1 lifetime against the Dodgers. He's tied for second on the Marlins' pitching staff in wins, but today's start will likely put his innings count over 40 above last year's. Will he be a victim of the "Verducci Effect"?

Post-Game 98 Thread: Plunked

MARLINS 8, DODGERS 6 Jason Schmidt and Jeff Weaver both regressed to their means today, collectively allowing eight runs over six innings. The Dodgers gamely scraped together four runs on James Loney's two-RBI double and Russell Martin's two-run homer in the sixth, but a ninth-inning rally came up short when Matt Kemp fouled out with a man on first to end the game. Maybe...

Post-Game 99 Thread: Out of Order

CARDINALS 6, DODGERS 1 It was a game until the seventh inning, when the Cardinals took advantage of the Dodger bullpen and a Casey Blake error to score four runs and put it away. Again, two-out madness prevailed, with the Cards scoring five of their six runs with two out. The Dodger offense was doing everything out of order, with 11 hits (same as the Cards), 11 left on base and...

Game 99 Thread: July 27 @ Cardinals, 4p

Randy Wolf (5-4, 3.45) vs. Chris Carpenter (8-3, 2.26). COMMENTS: Uh-oh. The possibility of the Dodgers' first three-game losing streak of the season just became a lot more real: They face Carpenter tonight and Adam Wainwright tomorrow. In roster news, Blake "Elevator Man" DeWitt was optioned to Albuquerque, presumably to make room for none other than Hong-Chih...

Los Angeles Dodgers Andre Eithier Is Rewarded By The MLB

The Dodgers are currently having a great season. Presented when the team has future All-Stars making a impact to the line up. Spotlight on Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers History: The Nickname

*Note to Bleacher Report editors: "Baseball" was known as "base ball" for many years. Please do NOT edit such references.   When I was a kid, I had a very arbitrary reason for becoming a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. (For more details, see this article.)   Over the years, it occurred to me that the nickname “Dodgers” was very unusual. I vaguely remembered a literary character...

Dodgers Down On the Farm: Rookie

Jeremy Wise|C|R|23-The fifth round selection in June is off to a fast start, as his OPS is .986 through 11 games. He should be dominating in Ogden with his age and experience, but there's nothing negative to report. Wise is probably the best chance the Dodgers have at a major league regular at catcher. Take that as you want.Chris Jacobs|1B|R|20-I guess man child would be the...

With the July 31st trade deadline looming, Giants fans are anxiously waiting to see what, if anything, Brain Sabean will do to improve the team by the bay.  The Giants have not been known for making gigantic moves at the deadline, especially ones that push them over the edge during that same season, but there have been several trade deadline acquisitions that have proven to...
