We came to acquire Tim Redding in the off-season because the Nats decided not to offer him arbitration, it wasn't that the Nats didn't consider him a decent option but they weren't willing to spend what he would cost in arbitration.Redding signed a one year for 2.25MM but that doesn't mean he's automatically a free agent at the end of the season, Redding has two more years of arbitration and only has to be offer arby to be kept under control. At the time of the signing Redding was being pursued by several teams and it took a major league contract to acquire him. I thought it was a good signing, especially with his numbers against the NL east, but I have been disappointed since then.Redding came to camp recovering from off-season surgery and out of shape, which resulted in a second injury from over compensating. When he finally returned to the team he was awful, before the All star break he had a record of 1-3 with a 7.18 ERA in 51 innings. After being moved to the...

Mile High Meltdown: Mets Fall To Rockies 5-2
Tim Redding’s late season renaissance continued, as he enjoyed his third consecutive solid outing. However, his enjoyment of the game was short-lived, as party pooper Brian Stokes gave up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the second time in five games, including a bases loaded two-run pinch-hit single to former Yankee [...]
Sullivan, Tatis lead Mets past Cubs 6-2
Cory Sullivan homered and made a diving catch in left field to help the New York Mets, boosted by Bobby Parnell's stellar start, beat the Cubs 6-2 on Friday night. Pinch-hitter Fernando Tatis came through with a tiebreaking single that triggered a five-run eighth inning. Sullivan had an RBI single during the outburst and Omir Santos added a two-run single.
Don’t Get Too Excited About the Pitching
I know, I know. There’s very little to get excited about, Mets fans.
As such, the temptation is to look for the promise of things to come in the recent outings of Pat Misch and Tim Redding.
Resist the temptation.
Tim Redding, through the narrow prism of the second half, 2009, looks like a pretty respectable pitcher. After [...]

Brian Schneider: End of the Road for His New York Mets Career?
Brian Schneider's tenure with the Mets the last two seasons has no doubt been a roller coaster, physically and emotionally.
Schneider and Ryan Church were brought to the Mets by the Washington Nationals in the winter of 2008 in exchange for Lastings Milledge, who just did not fit into the Mets plans or the clubhouse.
Milledge did not seem to want to abide by the hierarchy of...
Mets Win First Battle of Mediocrity Against Cubs; Thank God for Grabow!
It's as though the minute Carlos Zambrano was out of the game the Mets came to life.Only Super Sully could solve Big Z last night...Other than a solo homer by Scott Sullivan to give them a 1-0 lead they held until Angel Pagan let a pop up drop in front of him for a double (which was actually an out considering the ump blew the call on Francouer's bullet to 2nd base that should...
Wright Time To Come Back For New York Met Fans
On Tuesday David Wright made his glorious return to the New York Mets lineup after taking a 94 mph fast ball to the head about 3 weeks ago.
Based on the poor season the Mets are having this year it would of been easy for Wright to shut it down for the final month of the season. The Mets are currently 60—74 and 18.5 games out of 1st in the NL East and have been crippled...
BELTRAN: ALL SYSTEMS ARE GO
DENVER -- Carlos Beltran has passed all the hurdles the Mets have set for him, which explains why the club is willing to let the All-Star center fielder come back even for a meaningless September. Assistant GM John Ricco said yesterday the bone...
Beltran Impresses in Brooklyn
Since I live about 15 minutes from Keyspan Park, I decided to head over and catch my only chance to see Carlos Beltran play for the Cyclones. Beltran was very impressive at the plate and on the base paths. I kind of expected him to play very conservatively but to my surprise he was very [...]
Why Tholmir May Not be the Answer to the Mets Catching Situation in 2010
Ask just about any New York Mets fan nowadays about who will be behind the plate in 2010, most will have no idea. And, I can’t really blame them, the Mets have not made getting a quality catcher a priority in the past few seasons, unless you call Brian Schneider and his .189/.272/.318 line quality.
If you ask anyone connected to the Mets, they’ll most likely say Josh...
Some love for Pat Misch
#48 LHP Pat Misch, congratulations on the first career victory in the major leagues. It's a testament to his talent that Misch has lasted this long without earning a win. Misch had tied a major league record by going 0-12 in starts, overall; he's made 55 appearances since 2006 without recording a single win. If he didn't have at least decent stuff he would be long gone...
