According to multiple reports on Twitter (@jrfinger, @HighCheese), Jamie Moyer is out for the season after he tore three tendons, one in his stomach and two in his groin. Moyer will undergo surgery to repair the tears and is out for an indeterminate amount of time. Some early reports are saying Moyer could be out 10 months while others say that he could return by spring training, but, either way, this injury could be a career-ender. Moyer will be 47 in November and you have to wonder if he has it in him to recover from surgery and get himself back onto a field again. While Moyer wasn't likely to be on the Phillies postseason roster anyway, no one wants to see the Old Man go out like this. Even if Moyer is able to return by spring training, the Phillies can't necessarily count on him to be the 5th starter next season. With Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Joe Blanton and J.A. Happ holding down the first 4 spots in the rotation, the Phils will need to make sure they have other options with...

Grampa Will Officially Watch the Post-Season
When Jamie Moyer fell off the mound during Tuesday night's win over the Astros and hobbled off to the dugout with Paul Bako's help, it immediately felt like the last time he would pitch this season. Team doctor Michael Ciccotti confirmed those feelings, as Moyer will require season-ending surgery for two torn muscles in his left groin and one in his lower left abdominal...
J.C. Romero Likely Out for Remainder of 2009
After news broke Wednesday that Jamie Moyer is gone for the year,
we're told that J.C. Romero is the latest Phillies bullpen arm to be shut down for the season. Romero hasn't
been able to pitch effectively in what seems like months, but the
Phillies were really hoping he could make it back in time for the

Moyer's season over because of groin injury
Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer will have season-ending surgery after tearing muscles in his groin and lower abdomen.
The 46-year-old left-hander was 12-10 with a 4.94 ERA in 30 games, including 25 starts. He lost his spot in the starting rotation to Pedro Martinez in August and probably wasn't going to be on the team's postseason roster.
Moyer was injured on his final...
Jamine Moyer Done
Jamie Moyer tore three tendons and is done for the season. So much for my idea of making him a Doug Jones type closer. You also have to wonder at this point if the injury also marked the end of his career.

Today in Philly Sports History: Phils Clinch NL East, 2007
Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend. The Phils have not yet clinched the NL East, but with their win last night over the Astros and the Braves' loss to the Marlins, the team are one good outcome away from winning their third straight NL East title. (Don't know the odds precisely, but assuming that the Phils have a 1/2 chance to win every...

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch believes the Reds might have interest in soon-to-be free agent outfielder Rick Ankiel. The Pirates are also thought to have some level of interest in the former pitcher, who's hit 36 home runs in the past two years and boasts one of the best outfield arms in baseball. (That's...
