Well it's now official, there seemed to be some confusion as to who was being designated to make room for the players the Mets wanted to call-up. Initially it was reported that Lugo was designated but then Willie Collazo was on the actual transaction list. Then it was reported that both Collazo and Lugo were designated but while Collazo was removed from the 40 man roster Lugo's name remained. But on today's transaction list Ruddy Lugo has been designated for assignment, the Mets now have 48 players on the 40 man roster with 8 players on the 60 day DL. The only two players who have not been activated are Adam Bostick, who finished the season on the minor league DL and Eddie Kunz who just didn't appear ready.....Mets designated RHP Ruddy Lugo for assignment.Lugo was up with the Mets last month, but didn't pitch in four days with the club. He was 7-12 with a 5.36 ERA as a starter for Triple-A New Orleans. source Rotoworld

Happy Recap: Mets 6 Brewers 5

Another huge win and this time the big contributions came from some unexpected sources. The bullpen pitched 7 shutout innings, which is quite remarkable. Nelson Figueroa and Brian Stokes are proving to be very valubale additions to the bullpen. It seems clear that Manuel is not going to use Smith or Feliciano for more than one batter for the rest of the season. And Ayala got another...

It's September and the Mets are front-and-center in the NL East pennant race and you have to wonder, are the Mets desperate or confident about their pitching staff?

The New York Mets open a three-game series against the second-place Philadelphia Phillies Friday night at Shea Stadium. The Mets are 10-5 this season against the Phillies. Here are the pitching probables for the series:

Born to pitch with Mets

Jonathon Niese, who made his major-league debut for the Mets on Tuesday night, was born on October 27, 1986 - the day on which the Mets won Game 7 against the Red Sox. Only two other players in MLB history debuted for a team that won the World Series on the day they were born: Steve Kline (Yankees) and Randy Heflin (Red Sox). On a substantive note, Niese was the first pitcher...

Red Sox Hope To Sign Tazawa

Japanese amateur pitcher Junichi Tazawa is one of the best young pitchers in Japan. He is projected to go very high in the Japanese baseball league draft and will likely be a top pitcher in the league by 2009 or 2010. His fastball reportedly registers at 97 mph, with room for growth, which he mixes with a nasty slider. The Orix Baseball team drafted Tazawa last year but he opted...

Yanks Live To Fight Another Day Despite Ponson's Efforts

Man the Yankees pitching staff blows. Only they could find a way to almost blow a 9-run lead. Their poor pitching is one of the many reasons why I think this season is pretty much done. If you've been reading my blog regularly over the last week or so, you've seen me mention that the Yankees need to

Niese debut not so nice, but Mets win 6-5 in 10

The debut of Jon Niese did not go so good. He pitched 3 innings, gave up 7 hits, 5 runs, walked 4, and struck only two. What do you expect from a 21 year old in a pennant race? He was nervous... Carlos Beltran was the offensive star of the game going 2 for 3 with a HR and 3 RBI's. Jose Reyes 11 game hit streak came to a end as he went 0-4........ Bullpen pitched 7 scoreless...

Warthen's Words: Nieses to Pieces!

Nieses to Pieces. That's the funny nickname pitching coach Dan Warthen used when he listed the 21-year-old lefthander, Jon Niese, on Tuesday's schedule for his rotation. It turned out to be prophetic. Niese, the Mets' top pitching prospect, came unglued in his major-league debut. His second pitch of the game was a home run to Rickie Weeks, and Niese ultimately had...
