Best Athletes By The Numbers:
Yes, Pedro Martinez IS the best MLB athlete to ever wear the uniform number 45. Don't get me wrong here. Bob Gibson was an awesome pitcher. One of the best ever. But do you remember how good Pedro was in his heydey? Do you? Do you remember how he dominated hitters with his fastball? Although Pedro's stats need to be adjusted a tad since this post was written, take a look at the comparison between Pedro's stats and Gibson's stats here. Real close, but the edge goes to Pedro.

Game chat: Clear skies, but outlook not so sunny
Mother Nature will finally cooperate with Pedro Martinez tonight. Defending Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum may be less inclined. The Phillies settle their series with the Giants and close out their homestand starting at 7:05. Lineups are posted: Standard formation.
NL East Daily Recap from 9-3-09
Pedro Martinez at his age, did something that most probably did not expect, outduel last year’s Cy Young award winner. Pedro Martinez(3-0) worked seven innings while allowing only five hits and one run but struck out nine batters. To be fair, it was against the futile San Francisco lineup, but none the less, Brad Lidge [...]
The Old Goat Beats The Freak
Pedro Martinez is a three-time Cy Young Award winner. In his young career, Tim Lincecum already has one and is a legitimate contender for the award this season. Both pitchers proved why they have trophies on their mantles, but the Old Goat out-dueled The Freak.
On the very first pitch of the game, Eugenio Velez sent a [...]
Preview Game 131: Phillies vs Giants
After a couple of frustrating nights for the Phillies it would seem unlikely that the bats will come alive tonight. Or will they?It seems almost silly to think the Phillies will spark tonight for seven, eight, nine or more runs after scoring once in the previous two games against the Giants, because the Giants will send Tim Lincecum to the mound. Lincecum is one of, if not the, best...
Morning Juice: Pedro Martinez a little better than Tim Lincecum
This and almost every weekday a.m. during baseball season, let's rise and shine together to recap the most recent diamond doings. Roll Call starts in Philadelphia, where it finally didn't rain on Pedro Martinez's(notes) parade.Game of the Day: Phillies 2, Giants 1 Little guys, big hair: It was like a monster truck rally of undersized pitchers with bigger-than-life stuff...
Martinez schools Giants
Pedro Martinez dominated the Giants for seven innings, yielded nothing after Eugenio Velez's leadoff home run and struck out nine while pitching the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-1 victory at Citizens Bank Park.
Message Delivered
As I settled in to watch Pedro Martinez face Tim Lincecum last night I said to myself, "Pedro's going to throw a fastball to begin the proceedings and if I am the first guy up I am swinging away."That was the last time I was right all night as Martinez and the rest of the Phillies fooled me in delivering quite a message to San Francisco and the rest of the National...
Fans on the Beach
I assume Liz Claman is on the shore in southern New Jersey:
i have never seen so many Phillies baseball hats in my life. This beach is a sea of red, everyone loving Pedro Martinez
Martinez beats Lincecum, Phillies edge Giants 2-1
The Giants had an ace in Tim Lincecum; the Phils had one better. Behind Pedro Martinez, the Phils denied the Giants a wild-card tie with their 2-1 win.
Suprise Home Run
Eugenio Velez hits Pedro Martinez’s first pitch out of the park for a 1-0 Giants lead over the Phillies. Velez doesn’t have much power; he generates more with his legs than his bat as he has 11 career triples and only five home runs.
Have Teams Done Enough To Catch The Phillies?
Last night's 2-1 win by the Philadelphia Phillies over the visiting San Francisco Giants had the makings of a playoff atmosphere.
Pedro Martinez, shown above, outpitched reigning Cy Young winner Tim Lincecome, going seven innings, giving up one run, walking none and striking out nine.
More importantly, he had the trademark scowl and separated himself from just being a bit ...
