A Final Salute to Shea Stadium, a day in pictures.
Never Shea Goodbye
In yet another sign of the bungled management that leads the New York Mets, the closing ceremonies to Shea Stadium turned out to be more like a funeral than a celebration. Why, you ask. Well, once again the people in the front office made the BRUTAL decision to have the big gala AFTER the game, rather than before the first pitch.
Didn't anyone have the foresight to think...
Johan Santana keeps Mets alive
Johan Santana pitched one of the greatest games in the history of Shea Stadium today.
Nine innings, three hits, no runs...on three days rest. Santana has proven that he's the big game pitcher we all expected him to be.
Amazin'...simply Amazin'. But the Mets have lots of work to do. Ya Gotta Believe.
One More Time for Oliver's Army
Pinning the hopes of the entire season on the arm of an erratic, enigmatic lefty is a scary proposition.

Fans say goodbye to Shea Stadium, smell of puke
Warning: Video not suitable for those currently in the process of eating/drinking any solids/liquids. For those without an appetite, please give Shea Stadium its appropriate dues, just like this underage drunkard did.
At least we know the Alcohol Consumption security guard is doing his job, even if the Mets bullpen can't.
Unhappy Recap: Marlins 4 Mets 2
Another season ends just like the last one, with bitter disappointment. What happened here was a microcosm of the whole season.Oliver Perez pitched pretty well but it was clear he ran out of gas in the 6th. Then the bullpen came in and held it for a while, but Manuel used too many guys and it resulted in back to back home runs. But the real problem once again was an offense that didn...
Wilpon takes positives from the season that was..........
Despite all the expectations, the what-ifs and the could-have-beens, Mets CEO Jeff Wilpon managed to muster a few positives Sunday on the final day of his team's 2008 season. "I think we overachieved based on what we had," Wilpon said. Dressed in a windbreaker and sneakers with electric yellow streaks, Wilpon lamented all the injuries -- to John Maine, Billy Wagner...
Audio: Minaya thanks Manuel, fans and looks forward
I received this audio clip from my friend who covers the Mets. It's Omar Minaya speaking after Sunday's loss to the Marlins. He discusses Jerry Manuel, losing on the last day, the 2008 season …
Maine has successful surgery
John Maine underwent successful surgery today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He will begin rehab immediately and is expected to be fully healed by Spring Training 2009.
What Could Have Beena??
Johan Santana has clearly put up a solid season, but has been short changed by bad run support, fielding errors and a terrible bullpen. Here's a look at all the solid performances Santana pitched this year that resulted in a no decision or loss for the southpaw.
Mets Give Shea Stadium Proper Sendoff With One Final Choke
Flashbulbs went off around Shea Stadium as David Wright took one final horribly awkward swing at a pitch in the dirt, thrown by a 19-year-old September callup from the Marlins. With the strikeout, the Mets had culminated another epic collapse, providing the perfect sendoff to Shea Stadium during its final season. The fans in attendance cheered wildly, as there could not have been...
Put it in the books, another heartbreaker....
As the lights go out for good in Shea Stadium, the only home most of us have known for our NY Mets ends the way so many seasons in the past have, with disappointment. I had come to accept the fact that this team might not make it to the playoffs, with as tumultuous and injury plagued season as they had it amazed me that they actually returned to contention. But this weekend sucked...
Historic Awfulness And A Nice Ceremony
The Mets closed out Shea with a terrible loss as always, but a nice ceremony.
