Well, that was fun, huh?You didn't have fun this season? Yeah, me neither. To be honest, I haven't watched a lot of Cubs baseball lately. For the same reason I don't hang around the oncology ward of my local hospital. Tending to the slow wasting away of a reasonably promising team is not my ideal plan to spend the fleeting Chicago summer.Which is not to say I didn't have nagging fears about this season. After compiling what was probably the best Cubs team of my lifetime in 2008, Hendry did so very little in the offseason. How was I to know that even the little he did was awful?I'm not going to go into detail about all the wretched ways the 2008 Cubs were dismantled (other than to say that I had no beef with getting rid of DeRosa, provided the Cubs received more than a bucket of goddamn baseballs - which they did not). I'm just going to make a quiet list of the things that annoyed me about this season, with the hope that a few of them could be rectified:The add...

Rich Harden is done with the Cubs
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Rich Harden has seemingly pitched his last game for the Cubs. The free agent to be was skipped in his last start because of fatigue. That fatigue is due to heavy pitch counts in short starts during September. Now, he'll miss his last start of the season after being shut down. Harden's return seems questionable after he went 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA and 4...
Giants Hitters Teach Cubs Pitchers a Thing or 12
The Giants battered Cubs pitcher for 12 runs on 17 hits, en route to a 12-5 victory in AZ Instructional League action at Fitch Park Field #3 in Mesa this afternoon.
2009 4th round pick LHP Chris Rusin (U. of Kentucky) got the start, and had an easy ten-pitch 1-2-3 1st inning (two strikeouts and a ground out). The Giants then scored twice in the second on two singles...
Milton Bradley Gone too, According to Piniella
A day after basically admitting that the Cubs aren’t going to retain Rich Harden, Lou Piniella also indicated – again without saying anything definitive – that Milton Bradley has played his last game for the North Siders.
“Our general manager Jim Hendry had to do a tough task of sending [Milton] home [on Sept. 20], and [...]
Cubs Not Looking To Retain Rich Harden?
The Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan writes that the Cubs have no plans to bring back Rich Harden, as eluded to by manager Lou Piniella. Prior to losing the final road game of the season to the San Francisco, Piniella ran down the 2010 rotation."You look at our starting pitching here for next year," Piniella said.
"You've got (Carlos) Zambrano, you&...

Game 2: Jeff Karstens (3-5, 5.45 ERA) vs. Carlos Zambrano (9-6, 3.69 ERA)
Story LinesLittle did I know that Kevin Gregg has been shut down for the year. Wow, that is some exciting news for a team that clinched another winning season. For as bad as the Cubs seemed this year, they will probably end up with 85-87...
MILTON BRADLEY COULD BRING BAD ATTITUDE TO KC
I couldn’t actually believe this when I read it. The Chicago Tribune reports that troubled outfielder Milton Bradley could end up in Kansas City. Apparently, Royals upper management considers Bradley “a talented hitter that could thrive in a low-key environment.”
Hey, they might be right. But [...]

Cubs 101 - Pt. 72 - The Sale of the Cubs to the Ricketts Family
When Andy MacPhail resigned from the Cubs during the '06 season debacle, it soon became clear that the long-time whispers of a Cubs sale were formulating into reality. The Cubs parent owner -- the Chicago Tribune -- was in dire financial straights and, even though the Cubs were a perennial money-maker, they were facing the grim task of bailing out their debt and satisfying...
