The Mets seem to be heading into the All Star break on a high note. They're finally beginning to hit expectations. They've won six of their last seven games and have cut the Phillies lead to 1.5 games. They seem to be hitting on all cylinders right now despite their starting second baseman and corner outfielders being on the DL.
Yesterday was no exception.despite a rain delay the Mets managed to get a lead, tack on a couple of insurance runs later in the game and give Johan Santana his first victory in his last seven starts.
Also meeting expectations yesterday was Moises Alou who left a rehab game in the seventh inning with a cramp in his left hamstring after diving for a ball in the outfield. You've got to love the last paragraph of Jon Blau's report on this on MLB.com:

In case you haven't been paying attention to the rampant stretches of white columns that have been terrorizing New York landmarks in the commercials airing on Fox, next week happens to be the MLB All Star Game which is being played for the final time at the current version of Yankee Stadium.
The last time the All Star Game was hosted by the Yankees was 31 years ago in 1977...

While I watched Billy Wagner once again take years off of the lives of New York Mets fans everywhere when he blew a save recently against the Phillies, it hit me that the feeling of angst I had was way too familiar. It's one of the worst feelings a baseball fan could have, that feeling that no lead is ever safe. Unfortunately, Mets fans know this feeling very well.

Where are all the Mets detractors now?
For weeks and weeks I've been reading newspaper articles, blogs, forums and all that jazz clamoring for the Mets to make a move, fire people, spark a fire sale and the like.
Now that the Mets have gone on to win four in a row and pull within 1.5 games of first place, that seems to have died down significantly, which makes sense. But where is the praise for this team?
