One of the first questions Omar fielded this morning after announcing that Tim Redding would be side lined indefinitely was whether it changed his stance on Pedro Martinez. Again Minaya asserted that the team was not negotiating with Pedro. If that wasn't enough, then the Mets most recent waiver claim should solidify there stance that they've turned the page on him.Why do I think the team is so against bringing in Pedro. I believe the biggest problem is his asking price, Pedro is still looking for at least 5 MM per year and the Mets simply aren't willing to pay that. But I'm not sure the Mets would sign him even if his price came down, after three injury plagued and disappointing years they seem snake bitten when it comes to him. Also Pedro was still acting like a 20 game winner when he wasn't even making 20 starts and on a club preaching team first that type of personality might not fit....But back to the waiver claim, it's been reported that the Mets have claimed Fernando Nieve fr...

Why the Orioles Don’t Need Pedro Martinez

The Baltimore Orioles don’t need Pedro Martinez. We know it, they know it, and thankfully, we all aren’t that desperate to give it any further thought. But even if we had, four words should immediately have snapped us back to reality. Age, injuries, guaranteed money. Share and Enjoy:

Fowl ball

Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal are taking some heat from PETA after appearing at a cockfight in the Dominican Republic. They took part as honorary "soltadores," the word used to describe the person who puts the animal to fight. Martinez said he was only a spectator. Her...

The Great Pedro Debate - Should the Mets Bring Pedro back!!

The Mets have a more room for competition for the 5th starter spot , now that Tim Redding has gone down with shoulder fatigue. You would figure that Pedro's name may have some consideration. According to Jon Heyman of SI, the Mets may have interest in signing the 37 year old pitcher. "The Indians, Pirates and Mets, who have long had interest in Cooperstown-bound pitcher...

Big step for Livan...

Livan Hernandez moved himself one step closer to making this team, with Tim Redding being side lined indefinitely both the fifth starters spot and long man positions are available. However, nobody has established themselves as a front runner for either position. Hernandez has been in the lead but that's been more by default then anything else, that may have changed today. Hernandez...

Six of one, half a dozen of the other

Twelve games into the season, the Mets' record sits at an even .500. This despite the fact that they have outscored their opponents 64-47. Some things have not gone as planned, as evidenced by the fact that Scott Schoeneweis has thrown more innings than Pedro Martinez. But there have also been som...

Start printing those playoff tickets

Well, maybe not, but it's hard not to be impressed with the Nationals three games into the 2008 season (particularly compared to their 1-8 start last season). Last night it was Tim Redding, who pitched 7+ innings of one-hit ball, and Ryan Zimmerman, who hit a solo homer, who powered the Nats to a s...

Could things have gone any worse for Redding....

So when is it no longer too early to worry about someone, earlier this week Duaner Sanchez was let go for his ineffectiveness. Now I'm not saying it's time to start considering cutting Tim Redding but even I'm starting to get worried about him and I put very little credence in early spring training result, while also having very little expectations for the fifth starter...

Tom Martin who had quietly become the front runner as the second lefty in the pen took two big hits last week, he was sidelined with a calf injury and at the same time the Mets signed Ron Villone. That didn't deter him from continuing, he was suppose to play catch with Tim Redding on the off day while wearing a boot on his injured leg. Apparently Martin fell down the stairs yesterday...

Would You Give Up Your Youth For. . .

from MetsLifer.comIn a totally hypothetical situation, yet possibly plausible, the Mets starting rotation next year could be Pedro Martinez, Dan Haren, Joe Blanton, Dontrelle Willis and Oliver Perez.I know what you're thinking.
