Monday Memories: The Offseason Blues Okay, so this off-season isn't shaping up to what most of us expected. The Mets suffered a terrible collapse, and they've done nothing significant since then. They traded away Lastings Milledge, lost Glavine (and I don't care if he blew the last game of '07, I wanted him back), and upgraded what, exactly? Don't fear, Mets fans. The Mets have had some pretty mind-boggling off-seasons in the past. Why don't we glance back at a few of Flushing's past off-season blunders, shall we?

Today is the official day to celebrate Festivus! Festivus is, of course, the holiday popularized by the TV show Seinfeld. In honor of this magical day, I will go through the three stages of Festivus, with a Mets theme! First up, the Airing of Grievances… Lastings Milledge: Good riddance. ...

Damaso Marte to the Mets?

According to Ken Rosenthal at FoxSports.com, the Mets are interested in acquiring Pirates LHP Damaso Marte, 'but not at the current price.' In his last 140 relief appearances for the Pirates, spanning two seasons, Marte, 32, has a 3.13 ERA while left-handed batters hit .154 against him. I guess it couldn't hurt, but it's not worth their asking price of Fernando Martinez.

Over the past couple of seasons, the approach of the Mets and Yankees to the slotting system has represented opposite sides of the spectrum. While the Mets have sought to maintain an "excellent relationship" with the commissioner's office, the Yanks have treated the commissioner's recommendations "with stifled laughter, routinely paying above slot." I...

1. NEW YORK METS: The trade of Lastings Milledge was unforgivably dumb, and they've got big problems at catcher and in the corner outfield spots (Angel Pagan started in left in the Mets' opener yesterday). There are also questions in the rotation - fifth starter Mike Pelfrey has done little in ...

The Washington Nationals traded for Wily Mo Pena, Elijah Dukes and Lastings Milledge to add power to what has been one of the League's worst offenses the last few season, and in the first game of Spring Training, each of the the three came through with doubles, and former Atlanta Braves' utility infi...

Mets Talked To Giants About Lowry

David Lennon reports that the Mets had conversations with the Giants about sending Lastings Milledge over for Noah Lowry. The Giants wanted a young pitcher back as well, so Minaya shipped Milledge elsewhere. Still, the Lowry idea could be revisited. showad();
