When the highlight of a Yankees/Mets game is Keith Hernandez giving SNY viewers a riveting on-screen instructional of the intricacies of the cough button, that's when you have problems. The Yankees defeated the Mets 5-0.The SNY cough buttons defeated the Mets 3-0.Where two hits at least could have been rubbed together to start a fire, the Mets couldn't even accomplish that, as they only had one all game. In fact, when Alex Cora struck out on a wicked A.J. Burnett (or has he dropped the periods and become AJ like his friend CC Sabathia) curveball in the first, the thought "well, let's get 'em tomorrow" escaped my lips. Seriously. (I'm impressed that it was Cora who got the only hit.) That's when I was told to have some optimism. You know the one thing that's worse than the Mets lineup right now? That's right, optimism.Consider: Not only are Yankee fans able to get the best seats, but they're knocking pop-ups out of David Wright's gl...

One Hit Wonders - Mets Fall To Yankees 5-0
It was a tough game to watch tonight at Citi Field, as the Mets were shutout by the Yankees 5-0.
Alex Cora’s single in the sixth inning was the only hit the Mets had tonight, as the Yankees came so close to pitching the first no-hitter at Citi Field… For the second day in a row!

Blood on the Tracks in Subway Series
by Lisa OlsonFiled under: MLBNEW YORK - Alex Cora might as well have been swinging a licorice stick. That's how effective his bat had been every time he stepped into the box and looked out at pitcher A.J. Burnett. Cora was 0-for-19 against Burnett, with seven strikeouts, and so of course Cora's manager did the only sensible thing Saturday night, when the Yankees played the...
Injuries finally catch up with depleted Mets lineup
Alex Cora snapped an 0-for-21 career skid against A.J. Burnett with a single leading off the sixth inning, but that was the only Mets hit off the Yankees' righthander and the two relievers who followed.
Pond Scum 3, St Looey 1; The 7 Train Arrives at Citi
I understand this isn’t the 1985 installment of the Cardinals, but I am pretty shocked at what the Mets pulled off the past four days. Seriously, did you actually stop and think a minute after seeing some of the lineups they sent out there? This lineup scored 11 runs a few nights ago:
Alex Cora, SS

What A Train Wreck This Subway Series Has Been At Citi
So far the Subway Series has been a train wreck for the Mets offense.
Imagine if Alex Cora had continued his anemic ways against A.J. Burnett (where did he get that shirt, from Greg Anthony?) and not snapped an 0-21 lifetime with a slap single?
We would have been lamenting about getting no-hit by the former Met, [...]
AN UNLIKELY BREAK-UP ARTIST
When Alex Cora came to bat in the sixth inning last night, he had one thought about facing A.J. Burnett. "I was due, man," Cora said. The Mets shortstop seemed like the most unlikely candidate to break up Burnett's no-hit bid, but that's just...
Errors, Gardner’s Corner, Home Run Robbery, and Kate Hudson
- You get the feeling that if Alex Cora makes that double play it would have been a completely different ballgame. The Yanks four runs in the second are about the cheapest runs any team has scored all year
- The visiting team really likes the right field corner at Citi Field. Gary Cohen calls it [...]

Wunderbar! More Sand Kicked In The Face
Well now, that's an aggregate of 24-1 in the last two games. We've got the Yank-Mees right where we want them; cocky and over-confident. Just watch these Mets roll now!Yep, that's right, Mr Rocky Outing himselfInnings Eater Pelf made it through five whole innings last night again, a lasting achievement for a bloke who has averaged almost precisely 5 innings per start...
What New York Mets' Alex Cora learned from Kobe Bryant about facing the Yankees' A.J. Burnett
Noah K. Murray/The Star-LedgerAlex Cora got his first career hit off A.J. Burnett on Saturday. NEW YORK -- There wasn't a whole lot for Alex Cora to smile about Saturday, but his hit off A.J. Burnett was one reason. Not...
