You can add catching to the list of San Diego needs now that the Mets have signed Henry Blanco, writes Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune.With the Mets inking the veteran backstop to a one-year deal last week, the Padres now find themselves without a complement to Nick Hundley behind the dish. The organization is currently split on whether or not Hundley is a starting or backup catcher, according to Center. As Center points out, there are numerous late-inning relief options on the market. While that might normally hamper a reliever's trade value, you've got to imagine Bell as an exception. The National League saves leader will cost significantly less than most other available options, as he's arbitration eligible af...

On the rumor front: Heath Bell
First thing I was hit with upon arrival today was that the Rangers have inquired about San Diego reliever Heath Bell.
Bell, 32, had 42 saves last season with San Diego but is likely to see his salary jump significantly from $1.25 million to $4 million or above in arbitration. The Padres are looking for catching, a right-handed hitting center fielder and a middle infielder. The Rangers...
Orioles: The third man
The Orioles have not been particularly focused on third base during the first couple days of the Winter Meetings, but it appears they may be expanding their horizon at the hot corner. San Diego Padres, Jed Hoyer, Adrian Gonzalez, & the Red Sox
New Hampshire native Jed Hoyer had been with the Red Sox since 2002. He served as co-general manager during Theo Epstein's 10 week hiatus in 2005. He recently accepted the position of General Manager with the Padres after Kevin Towers was fired after 15 years in the GM position with the Padres. Coincidentally, the Red Sox have offered employment to Towers, but it has not been...

Buster Olney of ESPN.com says the Padres are are expected to non-tender Kevin Correia.
In addition, Corey Brock of MLB.com says Correia has had “minimal” talks with the Padres, and Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says that unless he is willing to accept a discounted contract by Saturday’s non-tender deadline, the Padres will likely not offer [...]
Are The Mets Trying To Sign Every Catcher In Baseball?
First it was Chris Coste. Then it was Henry Blanco. Earlier today, Joe D posted that the Mets might go after Rod Barajas if they can’t get Bengie Molina. SI.com’s Jon Heyman is now saying that the Mets are considering offering Molina a one-year deal worth $6 million, plus an option for a second year. [...]
