PLAYERS: Pedro Feliciano
TEAMS: New York Mets

It looks like the Mets will not be going to any arbitration hearings after all. The lone hold-out Pedro Feliciano, has just agreed to a contract with the New York Mets, thus avoiding arbitration which was scheduled for next week. Feliciano signs a one-year deal for $1,612,500 which is a significant raise from last seasons $575,000. The Mets will be leaning heavily on Feliciano this season as the lone lefty in the bullpen. There were some grumblings that the Mets might sign another lefty for the bullpen based on recent comments by Omar Minaya, but that ship seems to be sailing as the Mets get set to open camp in less than a week. When Feliciano is used solely against left handed hitters, he is among the elite specialists in the league. Last year he was used in too many situations where he was forced to pitch to right handed hitters that enjoyed much success against him. He was also overused and logged a a ton of innings while leading the league in appearances with 86 games. Hopefully...

Madoff Victim Fred Wilpon Reported to be Hitting Up Mets Players for Loans to Bankroll Free Agent Signings

The Mets said Thursday that despite the prominence of the principal owner, Fred Wilpon and his businesses, on a list of the victims of Bernard L. Madoff's suspected $50 billion Ponzi scheme, the team remains financially sound. Time to Get Your Elbow Fixed, Ben Sheets

Back in August, I foolishly predicted that Ben Sheets would receive a massive 5 year/$85 million dollar contract.Wow...I was wrong. Remaining Lefty Specialist

Here is a list of remaining lefty specialist. It appears the Mets, despite the need, don’t want to spend major bucks on a second lefty. Tim Dierkes at MLB Trade Rumors outlined the lefty reliever market yesterday. For arguments sake let’s assume that Will Ohman, Dennys Reyes, and Joe Biemel are too expensive. Where should [...]

Getting to Second Base

I Wouldn’t Hire Scott Boras

Jack Marshall of The Hardball Times wrote an article earlier this week entitled “The Truth About Scott Boras”. The main premise of the piece is whether the practices of Scott Boras are “ethical”. Marshall discusses the client’s responsibilities, legal ethics, and puffing. The comparison that was made, which inspired this article, was one in which [...]

Mets still interested in Jones ?

Mets Interested In Ohman?

The Mets are interested in free agent reliever Will Ohman. Ohman, who went 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 58 innings last season, is the top lefty reliever remaining on the market. The Mets view him as a lefty counterpart in the bullpen to Pedro Feliciano. The Phillies are also interested in Ohman, as are the Braves, but they are talking with Tom Glavine and only have about 5-6 million dollars...
