Realistically Martinez could return anytime from the middle to the end of August. The concern is that Martinez is thirty-five years old and is coming off rotator cuff surgery. While he will be able to contribute, to assume the Pedro on the mound will be the same Cy Young Award winning pitcher might be asking too much. His return isn't as if the Mets are acquiring an ace pitcher at the trading deadline.
Omar Minaya has stated that the Mets will most likely be quiet at the trading deadline, but maybe Omar needs to revisit this thinking. The Mets by no means have this division won. Phillies Assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. was spotted in Toronto over the weekend scouting pitcher Josh Towers and rumors are circulating the Braves are talking to the Rangers about Mark Teixeira. With both of these teams looking to upgrade, it might be in Mets fans best interest for Minaya to look again at what's out there and make the necessary transactions to upgrade the pitching staff.

Mets in the Thick of the NL East
Via the Orphan:
NEW YORK METS- One game away from the World Series last season, the Mets came into the year as one of the favorites to represent the NL in this year's World Series. The Mets haven't exactly lived up to those expectations, but they are still playing well, 56-43, in first place.
Outlook- August is going to be a telling month for the Mets, when twenty of...

The Mets & Livan...A Good Fit
The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the Arizona Diamondbacks are putting out feelers for pitcher Livan Hernandez. The Mets are one of the few teams known to be interested in the right hander (along with the Braves and Mariners). Hernandez, who is listed at thirty-two years old, is 5-6 with a 4.77 ERA.
While Hernandez's numbers aren't overly impressive he might be...
Mets: Who's On 2nd? Mark Loretta?
According to the Daily News, the Mets have been looking at Astros 2nd baseman Mark Loretta.
Much like Paul Lo Duca, Loretta is a professional hitter and ideally suited for any lineup's No. 2 slot. Manager Willie Randolph has been searching for a No. 2 hitter seemingly all season, and particularly since Lo Duca was forced to vacate that spot in the wake of Moises Alou's...

The Atlanta Braves will win the World Series. . .

And for now, I don’t have a whole lot to back up my argument with those two statements.

The Colorado Rockies sign Josh Towers
The Colorado Rockies have signed right handed starting pitcher Josh Towers to a 1-year, $1.8 million dollar contract. The 30-year old Towers was not good last season for the Blue Jays as he pitched in 25 games (15 starts) and he was 5-10 with a 5.38 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Towers has [...]
Signing Teixeira would help Yanks derail BoSox

Teixeira or CC? This one is easy to call
Mark Teixeira and CC Sabathia are the top two free agents this winter, but Dayn Perry says only one is a wise investment.
Is Juan Miranda Doomed to be Traded?
When the Yankees signed Mark Teixeira it meant the end of first base for Nick Swisher, but it also cast a huge shadow of doubt that minor league prospect Juan Miranda would ever play in the Bronx.
Miranda, a first baseman and outfielder, came to the Yankees via Cuba where he played on the Cuban National [...]
Scott Boras is Satan.
Memo to Ted Lerner: Please start saving your pennies.
Be warned Nationals fans: The Aaron Crow Debacle hurt. And (at least at the time) getting burned in the Mark Teixeira Sweepstakes back in December felt every bit as painful. But what Scott Boras has in store for Stephen Strasburg could be pure hell.

Braves make it 3 in a row, beating Dodgers 4-1 (AP)
Chuck James did a good impression of Tom Glavine. Just hours after coming back from the minors, James allowed one run in five innings and the Atlanta bullpen shut down the Dodgers the rest of the way, leading the Braves past Los Angeles 4-1 Saturday for their third straight victory. Mark Teixeira's t...
“They’ll Go with K-Mo”
By Victor Varadi - Angelswin.com ColumnistIn his second at-bat of his first Major League baseball game, the big Cuban stepped to the plate and knocked the cover off the ball, a home run that would spark a 14-hit barrage and a 7-6 victory that ended a six-game slide by the Angels. Kendry Morales was that Cuban and he was 22 years old.Fast-forwarding three years from that 3-for-5,...
