Macho Row:
With the Phillies picking up a much needed victory, thanks to a stellar performance from JA Happ (much more on that in the morning game recap) and the Florida Marlins losing a second straight game to the lowly Washington Nationals, the magic number lowered to 51 tonight. To commemorate the shrinking magic number I figured it would be best to recall a classic moment from the 2008 World Series starring #51 of the Phillies, catcher Carlos Ruiz.

Brett Myers threw basically, like, an inning
Philles veteran pitcher and drawer of crucial walks, Brett Myers, is still on the 60-day DL nursing a bum right hip. He is doing his best to work his way back so he can still play in 2009, and at this point in his rehab, should be starting a long-toss program to ease himself into [...]
Phillies/Marlins Series Preview IV
The Marlins come into town and they have to feel pretty good about missing J.A. Happ and Cliff Lee who both pitched excellently in their starts Wednesday and yesterday, respectively. Happ threw his second complete game shut-out of the season and Lee allowed only one run in seven innings in his first start at home [...]

The Mystique Of The No-No
One of my fondest memories from 1990, my first season as a baseball fan, was listening to Doug Drabek pitch a no-hitter for 8 2/3 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies. The historic context of what Drabek was trying to accomplish was lost on me in real time that night; however, the sound of the crowd, the tension in the broadcaster’s voices as the outs mounted all told...
Pedro fans 11
Pedro Martinez recorded nine of his first 12 outs by strikeout and worked six innings for the Double-A Reading on Wednesday night, in what could have been his final rehab start before joining the Philadelphia Phillies.

Five Reasons Why the Phillies Will Run Away with the Division
The Phillies have played extremely well so far this year.
Their lineup has been one of the most consistent in the league.
Their rotation is turning around.
And let’s face it, they have been hot.
They have a six-game lead over the Florida Marlins, and a six-and-a-half game lead over the Atlanta Braves. They have a 10-game lead over their archrivals...
What IS best for the team?
You keep J.A. Happ right where he is. Pedro and Jamie can share the 5th spot. That's right, SHARE.
Cliff Lee continues to impress
Making his home debut for the Phillies, Cliff Lee
wowed the hometown crowd by pitching seven strong innings, allowing
just one run on six hits, walking only one while striking out nine.Lee allowed a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Todd Helton, scoring Rockies' center fielder Dexter Fowler,
who led off the game with a double to shallow left. That would be the...
Hot item: Cliff Lee Phillies jerseys (buyer beware)
The new Lee shirts and jerseys feature #34 on the back. But his uni number in Cleveland was 31, currently worn on the Phillies by Rodrigo Lopez, who could very well become waiver wire bait . So that number 31 could very well be up for grabs again, and, as superstitious as ballplayers are, it would not be a shock to see Cliff Lee reclaim it.
