They both put up solid performances in Tuesday's doubleheader. A quick look at the lines:
Dustin Nippert: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 99 pitches.
Brandon McCarthy: 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 0 HR, 95 pitches.
Nippert has done a nice job since Vicente Padilla was released and he came out and really pitched well on Tuesday. But for me, I put McCarthy in the rotation. He was pitching well before he got hurt in June and he has good stuff. The question is whether he can stay healthy. Right now, he is. Let's see what he's got in September.
Nippert should be an integral part of the bullpen and can spot start should an injury to the five starters pop up. He'll give this team some quality innings down the stretch.
What do you think? Should McCarthy get the rotation spot or Nippert? Why?

G131: Rangers beat Jays 5-2 in first game of DH
I love doubleheaders. Always have since I was a kid. And I'm not talking about those fake "split" doubleheaders where they clear the place out between games. I mean real honest to goodness two for the price of one doubleheaders. I try and go to every one I possibly can. There was one earlier in the season, and it came the day after my son was born, so I think...

ARLINGTON, Texas(AP) Josh Hamilton snapped out of his extended power drought with two home runs and Brandon McCarthy pitched into the seventh inning of his first start in nearly three months, leading the Texas Rangers past the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 Tuesday night for a doubleheader sweep.
Rangers quiet on roster moves
We know catcher Kevin Richardson and Brandon McCarthy will be added to roster tomorrow. Manager Ron Washington said the Rangers will also add some bullpen arms. That will mean 40-man moves as neither Richardson nor McCarthy are on the 40-man roster. Texas currently has 39 players on its 40-man roster.
Rangers 5, Blue Jays 2 (Final, Game 1)
The Rangers really needed that game and got it. Some late runs padded a one-run lead and Dustin Nippert, Neftali Feliz and Frank Francisco did a very nice job to get the win. You can join our live in-game chat, which continues through Game 2, here.

G132: Rangers beat Jays 5-2 in second game of DH
I didn't take as many pictures during the second game as I did the first, but I did get some. Let's start with this one.
Pudge screwing up the chalk lines behind the plate before the first pitch is thrown. Something that was really nice to see in a doubleheader. Truth be told, I figured he'd catch one of the games, but it was great to actually SEE it. He DH...
Rangers 5, Blue Jays 2 (Final, Game 2)
The Rangers once again showed they can bounce back. After a bad 18-10 loss on Monday, Texas swept a doubleheader today. It appears Boston is going to win, so the Rangers will only gain a 1/2 game on them. But the Rangers really needed the two solid games they got from Dustin Nippert and Brandon McCarthy. And Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Chris Davis and Omar Vizquel were integral parts...
