ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. | The non-waiver trading deadline passed Friday afternoon with the Royals standing pat beyond Thursday’s move to acquire outfielder Josh Anderson from Detroit for cash. Several clubs, including the Brewers, Marlins and Yankees, made at late push to acquire right-hander Brian Bannister, but none came close to matching the Royals’ believed asking price of two young pitchers, including one ready-now prospect.

Royals notes: Bannister touts xFIP as best evaluation stat for pitchers
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. | Brian Bannister after his last start — one the Royals won but in which he settled for a no-decision — declared a won-lost record might be the worst way to judge any pitcher. “It’s the worst stat in baseball because it’s so hard to pull off,” he said. “There are so many other ways you can be evaluated, but everybody...
Is $650K really holding the Yanks back from a pitcher they might need?
ESPN Insider has a report that the Yankees asked the Royals about RHP Brian Bannister today, but the talks "went nowhere" because the Yanks asked the Royals to pay the around $650,000 of the money left his contract for this season. A Quiet Deadline for the Yanks
So, the non-waivers trade deadline has come and gone and the Yankees stand pretty much where they did before with their chief rival improves. Leading up to the deadline most fans were dying to see a pitcher added. Brian Bannister and Justin Duscherer were a couple names bandied around. Instead we end up with the Yanks adding only Jerry Hairston Jr. while Boston acquired Victor Martinez...
One Last Suggestion
With only hours before the deadline their is one move that seems to jump out to me that the Yankees should do that nobody is talking about. They need a starting pitcher right now. Sergio Mitre has impressed nobody in his first two starts and nobody expects him to stick. As we get closer to the deadline, options keep coming off the table. The one guy that seems to be both available...
