With talk swirling of Bobby Abreu possibly signing with the Mets, and
Manny Ramirez's future destination, I felt the need to make a final
case for a free agent who's name generally hasn't been associated with
the Mets. Today, I decided to sit down and write a letter to our team's
general manager, Omar Minaya (and by write a letter to Minaya, I mean
post a blog on MetsMerized and hope he would find it), on this very
issue. Enjoy.Omar, I'll start this out by admitting
that I'm not your biggest fan. As a matter of fact, after last season I
openly called for your firing. Despite our checkered history, I'm
willing to let bygones be bygones, forget your shortcomings as Mets GM,
and move onto the here and now. That is, if you sign Adam Dunn. I know
the very mention of his name may send chills down your spine, but give
me a moment to explain how this move would vastly improve the shape of
this team for both the present and future.

Wow, it was so great driving home from work knowing that Oliver Perez was back in the fold. Listening to all the excited Mets fans calling in on sports radio made the ride so enjoyable. It's amazing how one signing can lift your spirits after weeks of worrying about what our rotation would look like after Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey and John Maine.

Oliver Perez and Mets agree to deal, in principle
According to Jon Heyman over at SI.com, the Mets and free agent pitcher Oliver Perez have agreed, in principle, to a deal.Update: The Post has it too. Same figures. No option, vesting or otherwise, on the deal. Probably because no other team was vying for him.Heyman believes the numbers to be for three-years and $36 million.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Mets seem closer than ever to retain Oliver Perez. The Mets are pushing to give Oliver 3 years plus a 4 year vested option.
