All seemed well for Billy Wagner on Saturday. The Mets closer finished a simulated game and was on track to return to the Mets on Monday. Then Wagner's elbow began to swell. What was concerning is Wagner didn't hurt his elbow, but was sent to the disabled list for a forearm strain. On Monday it was decided that Wagner would not come off the disabled list. He was diagnosed with elbow stiffness and would receive further evaluation on Tuesday. Well the further evaluation isn't good. An MRI revealed today that Wagner is suffering from elbow inflamation, which could cause him to miss the remainder of the season. "I'm very frustrated, but there's not much for me to do," Wagner said. "I want to play. I want to compete. There's only so much time in a career and I want to get out there and help my teammates. We're in a great situation right now. We're leading our division and we've got a great chance to go to the playoffs and you want to be a part of that." It's pretty much a "wait and see" approach. Wagner will rest his arm and wait until doctor's re-examine him and deem him healthy to begin throwing. Until this happens, all baseball activities have been halted. Since it's up the swelling to subside, there's no timetable for Wagner's return. This is a big blow to the Mets, whose bullpen has been frightening this season. While Wagner is out, expect the closer by committe (Joe Smith, Aaron Heilman, Duaner Sanchez, Pedro Feliciano) to continue.

Warriors-Bulls halftime

In the pre-game Webber said that this is a chance for him to still believe. Good choice of words. More irony, Webber covering Joe Smith. Both are former top picks who disappointed fans in the bay area. Early on the Dubs offense looks like it's still working out some kinks. Several lay-ups have been m...

Mets won't use starters as relievers (Closer)

After yesterday's sobering news from Billy Wagner's latest MRI, the Mets are back in crisis mode with their bullpen - but not desperate enough to mess with the rotation at this point. Manager Jerry Manuel basically ruled out using a starter to replace Wagner as closer, despite saying a week ago that it was a contingency plan he would consider. Manuel even spoke to John...

2008 NBA Preview: #14 Cleveland Cavaliers

Offseason Movement: The Cavs swung a good deal by trading Damon Jones and Joe Smith (to the Bucks and Thunder, respectively) for Mo Williams, a dynamic scoring point guard who can also pass the ball (17.2 ppg, 6.3 apg). It's not clear just how much he'll get to handle the ball, but the Cavs would be wise to let him take some of the offensive load off of LeBron. Williams was...

Is Wagner Done for rest of the Year???

The Mets and Billy Wagner say no, that he is not finished for the year, despite what is looking like a very ominous elbow injury. I'm no doctor, but the fact that both Wagner and GM Omar Minaya described the inflammation as actually getting worse, that's not a good sign. The immediate plan is to leave Wagner on the shelf until the swelling subsides and then have another MRI...

Who is Sean Green?

Last week Omar Minaya made a monumental trade that shuffled 12 players amongst 3 different teams. The most notable acquisition for the Mets out of the deal was their new set up man J.J. Putz. However along with Putz, came a player by the name of Sean Green; no not that Shawn Green. Green, who is 29 years of age, is a ground ball specialist.Sean Green was drafted in the 12th round...

First Impressions

A few days ago, last night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies seemed like nothing special, but with after Thursday's trade went down in which the Wine and Gold acquired Ben Wallace, Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak, and Joe Smith, everyone was looking at this game to get a gauge of how the remainder ...

2008 NBA Preview: #30 Oklahoma City Thunder

Offseason Movement: The team acquired forwards Desmond Mason and Joe Smith as part of the three-way trade that sent Luke Ridnour to the Bucks.
