In one of those magic moments that seem to happen during every team's playoff run, Daryle Ward went from one of the Cubs 2008 goats to Northside hero. His three-run homer in the top of the ninth was good for a .647 WPA, which seems to be the biggest hit of the Cubs season.
Before that astonishing at-bat, Ward was 0 for his last 10, 4 for his last 29, and 4 for 40 as a pinch-hitter this season. Nothing like a big surprise in a big package.

Road streak ends
The Cubs 9-game road winning streak came to an end as they got beat by the Marlins 2-1.
D-Ward wins it in the 9th
Daryle Ward hasn't done much all season for the Cubs, but that's forgotten about tonight. Carlos Zambrano struggled through 6 innings, or I should say struggled through the 2nd and 3rd inning in which he gave up 5 runs, but was pretty good the rest of the night. Still, his 2nd bad start in a row and he was in line to get the loss.

The Phillies came into last night trailing by 1 game in the National League East. They Started the ageless one, Jamie Moyer against San Diego and Greg Maddux. This had to be one of the oldest pitching matchups in major League History. Each dueled to the 7th as Maddux caved in giving up a Homer to Pat "The Bat" Burrell. Phillies Won 1-0.
