Outside of Atlanta, the center of the Phillies’ universe is in Reading, where the R-Phils are set to welcome two members of the big club. Mike Drago of the Reading Eagle reports that reliever Scott Eyre will begin his rehab assignment by starting tonight’s Double-A game against Altoona, then handing it over to Kyle Drabek (4-0, 2.54) for the second inning. Meanwhile, Raul Ibanez, sidelined with a strained groin and already working out in Reading, will be a game-time decision....

Ibanez will not take the field for Reading tonight

Raul Ibanez, out with a strained groin and eligible to come off the disabled list tomorrow, will err on the side of caution and sit out tonight's game in Reading. No further details were available from the R-Phils' PR staff.

Ibanez & Eyre at Reading Tonight

Raul Ibanez is scheduled to make his first rehab appearance tonight at Double-A Reading.  He will play five innings.  Ibanez could come off the disabled list this weekend, however Charlie Manuel said he would like to see Ibanez get eight to ten at-bats before returning. Scott Eyre is also scheduled to pitch an inning at Reading for a [...]

Where Theres Smoke, Theres Fire

And right now, Raul Ibanez’ groin is smoking. Wait… That came out wrong. Really wrong. But I think you know what I mean. For the second straight night, Raul Ibanez will sit out of AA Reading’s lineup [Scott Lauber], where he’s supposedly doing a rehabilitation stint after... ...

Ibanez Pushed Back Again

Yesterday, Raul Ibanez was scheduled to make a rehab appearance in Reading.  The Phillies said Ibanez had no setbacks, but his rehab start was pushed back to today.  The rehab start will have to wait one more day as it was once again pushed back a day. Ibanez has a workout today, and if it goes well, he [...]

Bunts and Balks (6/29)

Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez have sizeable leads at their respective positions in All-Star voting. It looks like Utley and Ibanez will start, and that they will be the only Phils' starters. Raul Ibanez is eligible to return from the DL on Friday, but is not expected to be ready at that point. Hopefully, he'll be ready by next week? Antonio Bastardo was placed on the DL, with Sergio...

Ibanez Unlikely To Return Friday

Raul Ibanez says that his strained left groin feels better, however it is unlikely he will be activated on Friday, when he eligible to come off the disabled list. Ibanez will be re-evaluated this week to see if he is physically able to start rehabbing. On the other hand, Scott Eyre is scheduled to make a rehab appearance tonight with [...]

Jay Mariotti and the Sports Blogosphere Continue to be BFFs

Jay Mariotti finally jumped into the Raul Ibanez/bloggers-MSM debate yesterday and, predictably, wrote a column filled with hypocricy and laughable irony. Also predictable was the response of the sports blogosphere in holding Jay accountable.

Mariotti : Will Leitch Invented Blogging, Bad Journalism

It took AOL Sports’ Jay Mariotti a couple of weeks to weigh in on Jerod Morris’ much-maligned essay on Raul Ibanez’ pre-DL offensive explosion, claiming “Morris made a fool of himself during a panel discussion on ESPN’s Outside The Lines.” That’s not exactly how I remember it, but the former Sun-Times Mascara Fiend would like [...]

All Star Balloting: Utley & Ibanez are Safe

Raul Ibanez will most likely be headed to his first All Star Game and Chase Utley will likely be headed to his fourth.  With the All Star voting ending on Thursday, it appears that Ibanez and Utley will be playing in the mid-summer classic. Ibanez leads all outfielders with 2,970,139 votes.  Utley leads all second baseman [...]

Mainstream Media Continues To Forget Previous Articles Written About Steroids

I'm not entirely sure why Jay Mariotti decided to wait a whole two weeks to chime in on the Raul Ibanez/Blog thing, but I'm more interested in the premise of his article. Mariotti is now about the 30th mainstream media member to comment that "steroid guessing is bad journalism", but forgetting what he has written about the subject in the past. Before we get into all of Mariotti...

Bunts and Balks (7/2)

Jimmy Rollins got a hit in Thursday night's game! In fact, Rollins got two hits, and is now two for his last thirty-one! The Red Bull must be sparking his resurgence... Raul Ibanez worked out in Reading for the third consecutive day, but did not play. Ibanez continues to not play, and the Phillies continue to indicate that he hasn't "had a setback" and that they are "waiting until...

Time for the Cubs to stop playing Board Games

It's safe to say that this past offseason has been one of the worst for Jim Hendry during his tenure as General Manager of the Chicago Cubs. The Los Angeles Dodgers made a mockery of the Cubs' right-handed lineup in the playoffs by not throwing a single left-handed pitcher at them, and the Cubs responded to this glaring weakness by trading Mark DeRosa, the most versatile...
