Found October 01, 2008 on Eli's MLB Rumors:
According to Mark Healy, the Mets would be smart to sign Ivan Rodriguez this offseason. Schneider hit .257 this season and did a pretty good job handling the staff. However, bringing in a veteran like Pudge would give the Mets a much needed leader, as well as someone who can handle the pitching staff. In a lineup like the Mets, you really don't need a catcher who is going to put up big numbers. If Pudge comes in and can handle the young pitchers and work closely with the veterans, the Mets should be able to get into the playoffs.A
Aside from Rodriguez, it is important that the Mets add bullpen depth as well as depth on the bench. Someone like Daryle Ward or Martin Prado would really help that club.A

Lyon's den.....

The Mets won in 2006 with a dominant offense and bull-pen that compensated for a mediocre rotation. As Omar focused on improving the rotation I think he took the other components for granted and of the two the bull-pen suffered the most. In 2006 the team had four players with closing experience ( Wagner/Julio/Sanchez/Bradford) and Heilman who they thought had set-up potential. Basically...

Santana has surgery on knee

The Mets acknowledged that Johan Santana had arthroscopic surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Agent Chris Leible tells the Daily News that Santana actually had been banged up for a month, but had vowed to complete the season with the injury. Santana knew his knee had trouble, but didn't want to know the extent until after the season. The diagnosis was made...

Going, going, gone a??

It's where Endy Chavez made his now famous catch in the 2006 in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series, where Tommie Agee saved the Mets in 1969 with a snow cone catch ...

It's Official, Minaya gets a extension

Omar Minaya, the man most responsible for shaping the Mets' roster and their future, has been rewarded with a contract extension. Minaya was appointed as general manager and executive vice president of baseball operations nearly four years ago. He has one year remaining on his current five-year contract, and the extension will take it through 2012 with clubs options for the following...

Manuel has not accepted any deal yet!

The Mets' plan to bring back Jerry Manuel as manager is not going as smoothly as anticipated. A person familiar with the situation told Newsday Wednesday night that the team has offered Manuel a two-year contract to return, but he has yet to accept the deal.During the final month of the season, Manuel gave every indication that he wanted the job, and certainly deserved a shot...

Cruz is another reliever they could look at.....

In 2006 the Mets were scouting teams to bolster their pitching staff for the playoff run at the trade deadline. One of the pitchers it is believed they looked at was Juan Cruz. The New York Mets have scouted the starts by Miguel Batista and Juan Cruz the last two days amid reports they were looking for more pitching for the stretch run, and the teams have had preliminary conversations...

Rules for engagement: How Omar should approach the offseason!

This is how I think Omar Minaya should approach the Off-season:1) Go and get a closer via Free Agency - Francisco Rodriquez, Brian Fuentes2) Package Aaron Heilman and a prospect (Maybe Daniel Murphy/Fernando Martinez) for a Starting pitcher. The Mets this Off-season are going to have to part with one of their top prospects to get something done. Heilman has wore out his welcome...

The other New York baseball team

It was a collapse. A collapse that was only supposed to happen once. Only, it didn't. It happened twice - and in back-to-back seasons. The New York Mets closed out the final season at Shea Stadium by blowing the lead in the National League East and falling in the final game ever at the stadium.

Mets, Manuel Talks Hit Snag

According to Jon Heyman, the talks between the Mets and manager Jerry Manuel have hit a bump, and talks may be off for the weekend. It is believed that the Mets made a two year offer to Manuel, but the sides differed on money. "We are in discussions right now with Jerry. We'll probably continue to talk to him," Minaya said. Manuel did a very good job for the Mets despite...

Did the loss of Fernando Tatis impact 2008 outcome?

In 2007 Omar Minaya grabbed Fernando Tatis off the 'scrap heap' hoping he might be able to plug Fernando into a supportive role for the Mets.

In Omar we trust....For four more...

The Mets made it official today by announcing that Omar Minaya will be the general manager for the next four years. I'm disappointed with how the last two years have ended but lets be real overall Omar has been a good GM.Lets not forget where we came from, between the four years prior to Omar (2001-2004) the Mets had an overall record of 294-352 (.455%) and the best year in...

Writers Wanted

We are looking for passionate New York Mets fans with strong writing and analytical skills to contribute to our day-to-day product and monthly digital web magazine. We encourage bloggers, writers, historians and sabermetricians to apply.

Here's an all around catcher....

If the Mets really are looking to change catchers then I think I have the perfect guy for the job.Now I'm not endorsing moving Schneider, I thought he did a decent job and think the team should focus their effort elsewhere. But I'm also not so invested in him that it would bother me if they did look for someone else. If the Mets are hoping to get more offense out of the catchers...

Byrnes for Castillo?

The Diamondbacks are very interested in bringing back Adam Dunn, but will not have room for him unless they trade either Eric Byrnes, Connor Jackson, or Justin Upton. It appears that Eric Byrnes will be the most likely to be traded. He only played in 52 games this year, but is a career .263 hitter and is not a free agent until 2011. But, who wants an injured outfielder who only hit...

Back in the saddle again

I'm back from my blog vacation and I've missed so many good topics, like TO whining again, the Mets collapsing again, the Rams losing again and firing their head coach, and much more. I feel like it's a little late to re-hash those topics, so we'll just move on. I'll have a few more posts up tonight, including the Six Picks for Sunday results and a new entry...
