Reading Between The Seams:
It only took Scott Van Slyke, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, nine plate appearances to hit his first career home run with a blast over the left field wall. Scott, the son of former Pittsburgh Pirates 3 time All-Star Andy Van Slyke, received the green light on a 3-0 pitch from Marc Rzepczynski. With two outs and two on in the bottom of the seventh inning. He brought his team from behind with the three run shot, to put Los Angeles up 6-5 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Scott is from the St. Louis area, and how fitting it was to come in as a pinch hitter and hit the game winning home run against his childhood team. Closer, Kenly Jansen, came in the ninth inning and finished off the Cardinals with three straight outs for his fifth save of the year. Scott Van Slyke is batting .333 with one home run and six RBI in nine games.
Javy Guerra gets the win with a record of (2-3). The Dodgers finished the weekend with a three game sweep of the Cardinals, and improved their record to 28-13. Marc Rzepczynski is now (0-2) on the year. The Cardinals have now lost four straight, with a record of 22-19, leading the NL Central by a half game over the Cincinnati Reds.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke his first major league homer, a go-ahead three-run shot in the seventh inning against his father's former team, and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night.

Last night Los Angeles Dodger Scott Van Slyke, the son of my favorite baseball player ever Andy Van Slyke, hit a 3 run HR in the 7th inning to help the Dodgers defeat the Cardinals. This was Van Slyke’s first career dinger. Naturally when I saw “Van Slyke” that made me think about how awesome that his dad was. I currently own only one piece of Pittsburgh Pirates attire and...
You'd think losing an MVP
and triple-crown candidate like Matt Kemp would have a negative
impact on a team's ability to score runs and win games. But for the
Los Angeles Dodgers that has not yet been the case.
LA was off to a great
start this year with Kemp leading the way, and now the Blue Crew is
proving it can win...
Talk about taking the bad with the good. The Dodgers completed a sweep of a three-game series against the World Champion Cardinals Sunday night only to get more bad news along two fronts.
Rookie Scott Van Slyke (right) was the unexpected hero Sunday night when he hit a pinch-hit, three run home run that turned a 5-3 Dodgers deficit into a 6-5 win.

The Los Angeles Dodgers' Mark Ellis was so severely injured in a play at second base Friday night that he came within hours of potentially losing his leg, manager Don Mattingly said Sunday.
Ellis underwent a fasciotomy on his lower left leg Saturday and team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache told him the muscle might have died if surgery had been performed six or seven hours later...
LOS ANGELES A solar eclipse took place in Los Angeles Sunday evening, but If you looked at the Dodgers disabled list rather than the team's 25-man roster, you'd come away certain that things had already gotten about as dark as can be. And when second baseman Mark Ellis joined the dreaded "List of Eight"four starters included--the light at the end of the tunnel...

Mark Ellis has been a big contributor to the Los Angeles Dodgers' hot start, providing stellar defense at second base and getting on base at the top of the order, with a .373 on-base percentage and 27 runs scored in 37 games
through Sunday's 6-5 win over St. Louis. But Ellis will be out for at least six weeks after getting placed on the disabled list on Saturday. Ellis...
A TIP O' THE CAP TO YOU, SIR
At Sunday's Los Angeles Dodgers game, a fan used a baseball cap to catch a foul ball hit by St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Rafael Furcal. Your browser does not support iframes. In the top of the second inning, Furcal hit a foul ball down the third base side. Dodgers third baseman Adam Kennedy chased it but ran into a wall that was thigh-high at the edge of the stands. Meanwhile...

Just happened upon this video today while looking for footage of the Dodgers fan fight this weekend that’s getting all sorts of attention from L.A. media. What we have here, according to the YouTuber who uploaded it, is from Thursday night’s Padres-Dodgers game in San Diego. What we have is one guy in his boxers challenging three homeboys to a street fight.
What happens next...
Took the past few days to regroup and hopefully I can break out of the mini-funk that has my season record currently at 9-5, +$385. There are actually several games I like on today’s schedule, but will go with what I am most confident in:
Dodgers +103 over Diamondbacks / Under 9
Bet $100 on each
Any time you can get the team with the best record in the majors as an underdog...
A lot of exciting stuff happened across the big leagues yesterday, so let's get right to the trots!

As a Brewers fan, I really wanted to put Jonathan Lucroy's second home run here. It was the first game in his career batting clean-up and somehow Lucroy managed two home runs and seven RBIs...
