I think the rotation is solid for lack of a better word. Not great but not bad.
Johan Santana is a question mark because almost no one comes back from the surgery he had. Chien Ming Wang may be the first if he can continue at his pace. Chris Young couldn’t. Jake Peavy has to a point but he still visits the DL often. The problem is that he was always injury prone so it’s hard to tell if it’s the surgery or his usual factors. But if he can be the Santana that the Mets got and not the Santana who pitched for the Twins then he should be good for around 15 wins.
Mike Pelfrey last year showed he can be inconsistent as much as he can be consistent. Some pitchers take longer to put it all together and with pitching coaches trying to get him to be a different pitcher every year, it might take a while. As he showed in 2010, he has the stuff. One thing they need to monitor is the cutter, which changes his arm angle. After he throws that pitch he becomes very inconsistent and sometimes flat. Ge...

Talk about turnover. ESPN's Adam Rubin has a list of the Mets with the most seniority. Except for David Wright, hardly anyone remains who was with the Mets when they were a contending team. After Wright, the rest of the top ten is Mike Pelfrey, Johan Santana, Daniel Murphy, Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell, Fernando Martinez, Josh Thole, R.A. Dickey and Jason Bay.No wonder Wright is...
MMO Exclusive Interview: Mets Pitching Prospect Ryan Fraser, RHP
I had the pleasure of doing a Q&A with 23-year-old, New York Mets minor league pitcher, RHP Ryan Fraser the other day. In just two years of professional baseball with the Mets, the 6’3″ Fraser has made some very favorable impressions on people who follow the team. He was the Brooklyn Cyclones closer in 2010 registering 12 saves, and he was an anchor in the starting...

In a post to SNY Why Guys, Mike Salfino examines players whose rookie seasons took place at age 25 and produced an OPS+ of 130 or more, and in regards to Lucas Duda, Salfino says:
“Let’s just spitball this list and say there’s a 44% chance that Lucas Duda becomes a valuable asset for the next five years, a 25% chance he becomes a hitter comparable to at least Jason Bay...
Mets remained interested in Endy...
I figured after they obtained Andres Torres, that Endy Chavez would would be viewed as a duplication of services. At the very least they would be in the market for a right handed center fielder to platoon with Torres should he look more like 2011 then 2010 or a power bat off the bench who could play better corner outfield then Murph. But according to Andy Martino the Mets remained...

Mets To Rock Wayne’s World?
I caught this in the NY Post this morning:
It’s doubtful Wayne Hagin will be back for a fifth year as Howie Rose’s partner in the Mets radio booth. Hagin’s contract has expired and WFAN has been interviewing possible replacements. Hagin previously called Rockies, Cardinals, Giants and A’s games.
I never really took to Hagin…
If they do replace him, I hope they give...

Mets ornament of the day: 1988, so close
Well, I fell just short of obtaining something recently. I was so certain, so close. It had to happen.Except that it didn't.I remember feeling this way exactly once before.I was so sure the Mets were going to the 1988 World Series, and that they'd win it. It was in the bag.The 1986 championship season was followed by a year devastated by injuries. But the 1988 Mets were incredible...

Latest On Carlos Beltran
Carlos Beltran is one of the top free agents remaining (#4 among unsigned free agents on MLBTR's top 50 list). He hit .300/.385/.525 with 22 homers for the Mets and Giants this past season and won't cost a draft pick, so teams looking for a capable outfield bat have taken note. The 34-year-old switch-hitter won't come cheap, however. Here's the latest on Beltran...
