Of those 12 players, 9 players were on the 40 man roster which means they can not be used in major league spring training games.  Only Val Pascucci, Matt Den Dekker and Matt Harvey are eligible to be used in spring training games because they're not on the roster.

The Mets began camp with 64 players minus the 12 players cut today, they are down to 42 players.  That leaves only 17 players left in camp who will not make the team.

Of the injured it looks like Scott Hairston will not make opening day leaving only 16 players to be cut.

Miguel Batista is the only veteran player eligible for the 100k compensation to accept a minor league assignment and he appears close to making the team.

There are still 12 non-roster invitees and with no obvious candidates for the 60 day disabled list, that means to make the team someone would have to be placed on waivers and potentially lost to waivers or free agency ( if eligible).

By the end of camp the Mets could need as many as four roster spots; one for Batista.  All the lefties in camp are invitees, meaning just to carry a lefty in the pen they have to make room on the roster for the winner of the spot from Olson, Herrera, Edgin and James.  Catcher and back-infielders appear set with Nickeas, Turner and Cedeno while Johnson, May and Quintanilla can be sent down without waivers or the 100k compensation.  At least one and maybe even two outfielders, depending upon Hairston's status will be carried from Baxter, Loewen and Rottino all are invitees.  Fernando Cabrera is the only invitee not mentioned, he doesn't appear to be making the team and can also be sent to the minors without ramifications.

One spot could come from cutting or trading D.J. Carrasco if he doesn't make the team and I guess Hairston and/or Byrdak could be placed on the 60 day DL.

There are six players on the 40 man roster who are still in camp but seem to be on the outside looking in, you have to wonder whether these guys are competing for jobs or their roster spots; Pedro Beato, Jeremy Hefner, Chris Schwinden, Cesar Puello, Jordany Valdespin, Josh Satin.

If I were looking for four spots this is how I would make the room; D.J. Carrasco ( trade/cut), and then I would try to slip through  three players who had not been on waivers before so they wouldn't be eligible for free agency; Schwinden,
