Posted in MetsBlog Last night, Willie Harris struggled defensively at third base. After the game, Harris talked with reporters and basically said: This is without a doubt the angriest he’s seen Terry Collins, who’s brief post-game talk with the team was taken to heart. When a team is struggling, it can be a good test of a player’s character. In the 7th inning, he believes he had his foot on third base, which should have forced out Jose Tabata. He’s right. The replay confirmed his assertion that he was on the bag, but it was his mental mistake earlier in the inning that I was more concerned with. With the speedy Tabata batting, Harris tried to turn an inning-ending double play on a high chopper instead of cutting down a run at the plate with an easy force out at home. Yes, Harris is playing out of position, but his lapse was more a failure of recognizing the batter, the base runners and the situation than a lack of skill. In his post-game talk with reporters...
