Found March 11, 2013 on The Flagrant Fan:
Adrian Gonzalez has changed as a hitter the last two seasons and that change has not been reflected in his projections from six different sites culled for this post. And unless he reverts back to where he was four years ago, his projections are kind of messed up. Some might say that his time in Boston might have screwed him up a bit and thrown him off his game. But I maintain that some of the signs were there in his last season in San Diego. Let's start with his walk rate. From 2008 until 2011, 95 of his 2,783 plate appearances were intentional walks. That is a 3.5 percent walk rate all by itself. And partly because of the intentional walks and other walks that were not intentional but were just as intentional (if you know what I mean), his walk rate was inflated. If you look at his entire career, subtract his intentional walks from his walk total and he has walked 8.2% of the time. And yet his walk rate projected by the projection systems for 2013 is anywhere from a low ...

Zack Greinke questionable for Dodgers opener

Zack Greinke was scratched from Monday’s scheduled start and was flown to Los Angeles to have his right elbow examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Greinke first reported soreness in his elbow last week but was able to throw his bullpen session on Friday with no issues. Sunday the soreness returned after he threw another session and that caused him to fly to Los Angeles on an extremely...

Injury Roll Call: Greinke’s elbow to be examined, Crawford’s slow progress, Guerra’s … groin

After reporting forearm tightness to the Dodgers, it’s been relayed that Zack Greinke is now dealing with elbow discomfort, which will force him to miss his latest Spring Training outing. “Doctors have ruled out serious injuries such as ligament damage,” wrote Gurnick, who called the move precautionary. “Greinke has told the club he’s dealt with similar elbow issues in...

A Corey Seager (Blue) White Whale.

Corey Seager is the young Dodgers' prospect I've decided to Super-Collect. Well, he and Jerry Sands, but of course Jerry is no longer a Dodger. Anyhoo, I think Seager has the potential and raw talent to be an excellent player and I've accordingly begun to pursue as many of his autographs as possible.I was recently able to land what is thus far the pinnacle of my collection...

Dodgers send Greinke to L.A. for elbow exam

PHOENIX -- The Dodgers sent pitcher Zack Greinke to Los Angeles on Monday for an examination of his right elbow. Greinke complained of irritation in the elbow while throwing on Sunday. The Dodgers sent him to Dr. Neal El Attrache for what the team called a "precautionary exam" ordered out of an "abundance of caution." The Dodgers signed Greinke for 147 million...

Los Angeles Dodgers ask who’s left for left

Baseball terms have always made great metaphors for life. Yasiel Puig is making a run at becoming the opening day left fielder. The term “out of left field,” according to the unimpeachable source called Wikipedia; was first used in the music industry to describe a song that was a surprise hit. In 1981, New York Times columnist William Safire “tweaked” with that meaning somewhat...

Dodgers' Cruz, Gonzalez in brawl in the WBC

PHOENIX (AP) -- A fierce brawl that saw Alfredo Aceves and several players throw nasty punches erupted Saturday in the ninth inning of Canada's 10-3 romp over Mexico in the World Baseball Classic in a melee that also involved fans. The fights broke out after Canada's Rene Tosoni was hit by a pitch from Arnold Leon with Canada leading 9-3 at Chase Field, home of the Arizona...

Zack Greinke's elbow is OK (for now), Dodgers and fans breathe sigh of relief

When Bill Shaikin tweeted about Zack Greinke's elbow yesterday, Dodger fans everywhere held their collective breath. Could the team's biggest free agent signing ever really be hurt already? Luckily, Greinke's MRI came back negative. In a somewhat surprising twist, Greinke needed a platelet-rich plasma injection -- the same injection Chad Billingsley received for...

The Case For: Hanley Ramirez

Hanley Ramirez is one of the more aggravating players in fantasy baseball. Players see his tantalizing ceiling, then heave exasperated sighs when he fails to reach it. However, on draft day, players take this frustration and make the crucial mistake of avoiding Hanley. The sentence “Hanley is a headache so I won’t draft him” has a true premise (Hanley IS a headache) but a false...

Dodgers too much for Rockies 6-1

Matt Kemp had his first two hits of the spring and Clayton Kershaw allowed only two hits in five innings and added an RBI single and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 6-1 Sunday. Kemp, who was 0 for 11 with five strikeouts in his first four Cactus League games, singled in the first inning, walked in the fourth and added an RBI single to score Dee Gordon during a...

Dodgers' Cruz, Gonzalez shine for Mexico

PHOENIX The Dodgers, who already have a big Latino fan base, may have picked up even more Mexican fans Friday night. Dodgers Luis Cruz and Adrian Gonzalez, playing third base and first base and batting third and fourth for Mexico, drove in all five runs as Mexico defeated the United States, 5-2, in a World Baseball Classic game at Chase Field. Mexico, upset by Italy in its opener...

Zack Greinke leaves Dodgers' camp for elbow examination

Dodgers say it's just a precaution as Zack Greinke goes to L.A. for elbow exam.

Season Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers

The new Dodgers owners said they’d spend, and it appears that they will. After last year’s deadline blockbuster, the Dodgers have continued to bring in players and spend recklessly, according to some. Can they overtake the defending champion Giants? Key Losses: Joe Blanton, RHP (Angels, Free Agent) Randy Choate, LHP (Cardinals, Free Agent) Rubby de la Rosa, RHP (Red Sox, Trade...

Brewers 3, Dodgers 2

Rickie Weeks had an RBI triple off Hyun-Jim Ryu after Zack Greinke was scratched from his start Monday because of elbow inflammation, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2. The Dodgers said Greinke was examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and that an MRI in Arizona last week showed no structural damage. The 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner, signed to a $147 million...
