New York Mets starter R.A. Dickey turned in a scoreless inning against the American League in last night’s All-Star game.  The National League won in convincing fashion, 8-0, and will now have home field advantage during the 2012 World Series, a reward that will hopefully impact the Mets down the road.

The 37-year-old Dickey had the following to say after his first All-Star game appearance:

I love the fact that R.A. tweeted to his fans right after exiting the game, but I love his post-game comments even more:

Before Dickey and the Mets get back to business, the pitcher has one more stop to make Wednesday night, when he’ll be a guest on the David Letterman show.  The show airs on CBS at 11:30 p.m. and it might be worth tuning in since the knuckleballer is coming prepared!

Poor Dave, I don’t think he knows what he’s in for, but I’d love to see this go down.  Perhaps Letterman should have checked with Phillies All-Star catcher Carlos Ruiz before agreeing to this…..on second thought, maybe not.

Dickey pitches scoreless inning in NL’s 8-0 romp

The All-Star Game doesn’t always live up to the hype that comes with a contest between baseball’s best players, but tonight’s event was particularly one-sided, with the senior circuit jumping on top early and rolling to a 8-0 victory. American League starter Justin Verlander appeared locked in at the start when he struck out Carlos Gonzalez with a nasty breaking ball, but things...

R.A. Dickey passed over for All-Star start

Tony La Russa, who will manage the National League in the 2012 All-Star game, has elected to go with Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants over New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey as his starter tomorrow.  To me, this confirms that the city of San Francisco has somehow struck a deal with the devil and in the fine print was a clause that handed the franchise rights to this year’s...

Carlos Ruiz Uses Special Glove to Handle Dickey's Balls

Carlos Ruiz was selected to be the one to handle the catching duties for knuckleballer R.A. Dickey during the 2012 All-Star game.  But to do so, Dickey brought along his own catchers' mitt for Ruiz to catch (pitctured above). Knuckleballs are highly unpredicable.  So much so that Tony LaRussa did not think that Buster Posey of the Giants could handle it.  But Chooch could...

Dickey Doesn't Knuckle Under Pressure: Steals Show On Letterman

Mets All Star Knuckleballer appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman last night, and suffice to say, he was a complete success. Some interesting points RA Dickey brought up was that a lot of the knuckle ball is about reputation. There isn't much respect until you can show that you can throw the knuckler for a strike. Dickey also said he throws the knuckle ball approximately...

Jered Weaver, R.A. Dickey Early Favorites to Win Cy Young Award

With Major League Baseball on its All-Star Break until regular season games resume on Friday, Bovada has posted updated MLB player awards props involving the Cy Young and MVP in each league. The Red Sox thought they had two potential Cy Young candidates in the spring in Jon Lester and Josh Beckett, but pitchers have disappointed as Boston was just 12-20 in their 32 starts during...

Dickey gets snubbed out of All-Star Start, Giants’ Cain gets the nod.

There has been many good stories to come out of baseball in this first half of the season. There have been rookie phenoms in Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, the power the Yankees have shown, the farewell of Chipper Jones and also five no-hitters with two of those being perfect games. However, the biggest and most compelling story of them all has been the emergence and dominance of Mets...

Cain will Start Over Dickey, Gonzalez over Wright in All-Star Game

NL manager Tony La Russa said Matt Cain and R.A. Dickey were "equally legitimate" contenders to serve as the starting pitcher for the National League in the All-Star Game, but he selected Cain in part because he already is catcher Buster Posey's regular-season battery-mate and therefore they have familiarity. "I know Dickey's going to pitch," La Russa...

Darvish variety to Dickey mastery for same results

(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer Yu Darvish came to America this year with an array of different pitches. The Japanese ace has already won 10 games for the Texas Rangers with his repertoire of fastballs and breaking pitches. R.A. Dickey mastered the knuckleball and this season became an All-Star for the first time at age 37. These days, there...

Look At Me, I'm A Genius

Here's what bothers me about R.A. Dickey not starting the All-Star game (other than the fact that he deserved it): This isn't about Matt Cain not deserving the start on his own merits, though Dickey bested Cain in every single category except walks (24-26 for Cain). This is about Tony La Russa, once again, acting like he's smarter than the rest of the world by finding...

New York Mets News and Notes for this All-Star Break

R.A. Dickey (l) and David Wright (r) will be representing the New York Mets at the All-Star Game this week. Let’s start with the All-Star Game. David Wright not only lost out on the starting third base spot to Pablo Sandoval but he won’t be the DH either. If this game matters and the best players should be starting then why is Wright not starting this game? And speaking of...

Carlos Ruiz to Catch Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey in All-Star Game; Matt Cain to Start for N.L.

Who is the better catcher, Buster Posey or Carlos Ruiz?  While the voters may have said Posey, National League manager Tony La Russa thinks that Ruiz is best suited to handle the most difficult catching challege of the day: New York Mets pitcher and knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Today, Tony La Russa said he will have Chooch warm up with Dickey and they can then enter the game together...

It’s time for Sandy Alderson to address Mets’ needs

Everyone in Metsland seems upset that David Wright was the victim of voter fraud in San Francisco and that R.A. Dickey was the victim of Tony LaRussa arrogance/stupidity. Me, I do not care too much about either of those things. Rather what has me upset is the opening line of a column published by CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman Monday night. Here’s what Heyman wrote: ”Some Mets officials...
