Found October 03, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
Well, Sandy Alderson did meet with Mets beat writers as I mentioned earlier and he had a mouthful to say. Adam Rubin got a good summary of everything:Wow… So lets see…1. Informal conversations have taken place with Dickey and Wright. I think that’s called discussing parameters.2. Buyouts on options for Santana and Bay ARE part of the 2013 Payroll – That’s Huge. $9 million. I had some questioning me about that.3. Says his #1 Goal is building from the farm. That’s why we failed to sign our second round pick and 19 other draft selections?4. Trades are not a given. Well duh, you need trade chips and Ike, Wright, Dickey and Niese is all you have.5. Collins won’t be extended. That will make some happy here.6. Changing his approach to retaining players. Huh, no box of chocolates? Tell me that wasn’t a reference to the botched Reyes talks.7. I still hold to my philosophy, but there are exceptions to every rule. I see a crack in the levee.8. His second priority is retaining core players. Won...

Walk on the Left Side: Ruben Tejada Makes a Name for Himself

David Wright and Ruben Tejada seem more than comfortable working together after the departure of Jose Reyes Welcome to our off-season, my Mets faithful!  I realize there is still post-season baseball to be played (how ’bout those A’s, huh?) but for the Kings of Queens, the off-field work is already starting.  As we at the Daily Stache begin the long wait until February 13...

Baseball America ranked the Top 20 Prospects in the New York-Penn League and featured four Mets farmhands in RHP Luis Mateo #5, CF Brandon Nimmo #11, RHP Hansel Robles #12 and SS Philip Evans #18. Not a bad showing at all. Here is what they had to say on each of them:5. Luis Mateo:He’s a true power pitcher who sits at 92-95 mph and touches 96 regularly, with good angle on his...

THE PLAN: Payroll Stays Put, Nobody’s Safe, Women and Children First

Alderson’s Third Offseason: It’s Time To Put Up, Or Shut Up…Those team sources are talking to Adam Rubin at ESPN New York again. He says the Mets intend to keep payroll the same, turn over the roster mostly through trades, and nobody’s safe. That goes for you too Wright and Dickey…Metsblog summarizes the gist of it as follows:No one on the roster is viewed as ‘untouchable...

MMO Roundtable: What Should Be The Number One Priority This Offseason?

In this MMO Roundtable edition, I asked our staff the following:What is the number one priority for the Mets this offseason?Mitch: While the outfield has some issues, the bullpen is priority number one. The Mets lost a bunch of games because of the bullpen’s inability to get the job done…I’m not sure how many games, if any, could be directly attributed to the lack of production...

R.A. Dickey Benefits from "One At Bat"

After the season he had, it's pretty safe to say that R.A. Dickey will still be the topic of conversation long after baseball hands out its postseason awards. But one achievement might have eluded the New York Mets knuckleballer if not for "One At Bat".  You see, of Dickey's National League leading 230 strikeouts...number 229 came against, you guessed it, Adam...

1st day of the Off Season: Sandy Alderson has alot to do

This stinks.  Off season already while 10 teams get ready for the play offs.  No listining to Mex wax poetic about himself or Ron Darling be self effacing.  No watching Thole strike out with runners on or Torres have a pop fly go off his mitt.  Yes all the annoying things are gone and so is another season.  I hate the off season already.  Sandy Alderson said to expect major...

Gently Into The Offseason (With A Win And Some Pies)

Well kids, that's a wrap. We've had our last pitch, our last swing, our last questionable pitching change, our last blown save, our last grounder to the right side, our last check in with Kevin, our last Mex Burger, our last Dog Piss Live, our Andres Torres home run until April 2013, when the cycle will renew itself. (Well, except for the Andres Torres home run since he&...
