TEAMS: Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Miami Marlins
When the Chicago Cubs hired Theo Epstein it seemed like just a matter of time until changes would be brought upon the franchise that is desperately seeking any way to once again achieve greatness. The dealing of Carlos Zambrano to the Miami Marlins was probably not that big of shock seeing how Zambrano has been a bad influence in the locker room and not too popular with the front office either. But Epstein is determined to keep the changes coming and the next one will be in the form of an Alfonso Soriano trade to an American League team.
There are several reports surfacing that the Cubs front office has spoken with eight American League teams over the last six weeks about a deal for Soriano. Soriano’s next destination will be to a team in the American League it’s just unsure as of now as to which team, and when the deal will be done. Soriano hit .244 last season with 26 home runs and 27 doubles while appearing in 137 games and he could be a good pickup for a team looking...

Can the Cubs really find someone to take Alfonso Soriano off their hands?
Last week the Cubs did the (seemingly) impossible and trade headcase Carlos Zambrano while actually getting a decent player in return (Chris Volstad). Sure, the Cubs had to pay $15 million of the $18 million that Zambrano is owed in 2012, but, as Theo Epstein put it:
“The calculus for us was would we rather spend that $18 million on one year of Carlos and try to make it work...
Report: Orioles Inquire With Cubs About Alfonso Soriano
Another trade could be on the horizon for Theo Epstein. A day after sending Carlos Zambrano to the Marlins, the Cubs president of baseball operations is shipping around outfielder Alfonso Soriano and has spoken with at least eight American League teams over the past six weeks, according to ESPN.com. MASNsports.com reports the Orioles are one of the teams that inquired about the outfielder...
Orioles Notes: Soriano, Pitching, Ramirez, Miller
Yesterday, we heard that the Orioles and Cubs talked about a deal involving Alfonso Soriano. In order to ship the outfielder elsewhere, the Cubs would have to eat a substantial portion of the $54MM remaining on his contract. Here's more on Soriano and the Orioles..
Talks between the Orioles and Cubs were probably not very serious, sources told Rich Dubroff of CSNBaltimore...
Are the Cubs Going To Trade Alfonso Soriano?
The Chicago Cubs were able to trade Carlos Zambrano (Thank Goodness), and now are supposedly trying to trade Alfonso Soriano (ya think)? The question is simply- is TheHoyer Destroyer (Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein) going to be able to deal Soriano?
I think ultimately an American League team looking for some right handed pop out of the DH spot will in fact deal for Alonso Soriano assuming...
How Money Makes an Albatross
Say the word, "Zito," to just about any baseball fan in some sort of psyche test and you get a response of, "Bad Contract." And the funny thing about us as fans is that we turn Zito into some kind of pariah. There were two things that are not Zito's fault. First, his skills faded. Secondly, despite the signs that his skills were eroding, some schmuck gave...
Your Morning Dump... Where Sweeney may or may not thrive in Boston
Every morning we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
"Last year was probably the hardest year I ever had playing baseball, not from the standpoint of doing good or doing bad, but just mentally I don't wish going from a starter to a backup player on...
Could Soriano be the next Cubs player to go?
Is an Alfonso Soriano trade realistic for the Cubs? It seems unlikely but there is a chance Theo Epstein will follow Wednesday's deal for Carlos Zambrano with one for the left fielder, who is owed $54 million.
Dealing Alfonso Soriano could be next on Cubs’ agenda

As Cubs rebuild with youth, few seem to mind loss of veterans
As Epstein, Hoyer rebuild with youth, few seem to mind loss of veteransThere seems to be little debate the Cubs are writing off the 2012 season, following Theo Epstein's blueprint of "building a foundation of sustained success."
A franchise opportunity
Steve:
You know you're really in the midst of an effed up bizarro Red Sox world when the most recent news item in the Globe's Sox blog opens up with
"Theo Epstein accomplished something pretty big yesterday…"

Epstein Gets His Man: Cubs Acquire Rizzo from Padres
The Chicago Cubs were looking for a first baseman, and they got one on Friday, but not one of the ones you were thinking of. The team acquired Anthony Rizzo, along with pitcher Zach Cates, from the San Diego Padres in exchange for pitcher Andrew Cashner and outfielder Kyung-Min Na.
Cubs president Theo Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer are plenty familiar with Rizzo, as he was initially traded...
